How many hours of sleep do you get a night? ?

We’ve all heard that magic number of aiming for 8 hours sleep per night (we certainly wish!) But how much sleep do you ACTUALLY get a night?
And, more importantly, do you think you get enough? ? moon

probably between 7-8 hours but I must get up to go to the loo at least twice a night it's exceptional if I sleep through wothout needing the loo! Is it just getting older?

Hi
I sleep very badly Have tried the usual sleep hygiene advice but find it impossible to drop off sometimes Then I tend to sleep for an hour and then am awake for 2/3 hours before hopefully dropping off again . This seems to be a repeated cycle and I know its having a detrimental effect on my health/ everyday life Was referred by Gp to a sleep clinic online but to be honest, didn't really help . Its been a chronic problem for a few years and I really don't want to resort to sleeping tablets . Any advice gratefully recieved; thankyou.

I only get about 4 hours at the most each night, so I always feel very tired the next day.

I get about 7 sometimes 8 and yet I still feel tired in the day.

5 - 6 hours sleep ? but another 3-4 hours in bed ? reading or browsing on iPad.

About 6 hours but I have a really elderly cat with dementia and he usually taps in about 5 and a half hours ?

6 hours is good but I have a really elderly cat with dementia and he usually taps in about the five and a half hour! ?

6 hours uninterrupted if I remember to take my HRT and then often another couple of hours after a 5 - 30 minute wake up. Pets and partners are not great for my sleep so I sleep alone.

Probably about eight hours if I'm lucky but less if disturbed and the cat has a habit of coming in during the night and scratching the bedclothes on my husbands side and waking us up. We've tried closing the door but she has wrecked the carpet on the landing and cries in the utility if we try to lock her in there for the night.

I’ve realised I am sleeping about seven hours a night, but always feel like I could do with another hour.?

i have a terrible sleep patternn and wake often on a good night ill get 6 hours

melriley12345 Tue 16-Mar-21 20:02:10

I go to bed between 10 and 11 every night but read a book for around 30 mins in bed before turning the lights off. I usually get sleep then until 7ish.

I will never ever understand my body. About 5 times a year I get no sleep at all. About 20-30 nights it’s 2-3 hours, mostly it’s 5-6 hours and rarely it is 7-8 hours. I go to bed at 10pm and read for between 1-3 hours. I wake anytime between 4am and 9am. I go to the loo once or twice night sometimes not at all and other nights FOUR times. I’ve tried my whole life to get a good night’s sleep. Even as a young child I was a poor sleeper.

rags Tue 16-Mar-21 19:15:26

I sleep around 6 hours a night, usually dropping off just before midnight. Then I'm awake at 4 in the morning and have to read for a couple of hours before dozing off again until 8-ish.
I think I get enough sleep, but I do wish I could get through the night without waking for so long.

sheebasima Tue 16-Mar-21 17:23:26

I try to get 8 hours every night

muse Tue 16-Mar-21 17:11:05

Anything from 3 to 10. Average is 6. Wake up at some time most nights, more than once occasionally.

We never set the alarm unless we are expecting someone early but generally we go to bed around midnight.

sazz1 Tue 16-Mar-21 17:01:41

Between 7 and 8 hours sleep every night. If I have less I tend to nap in the afternoon or sleep for longer the next night. I'm lucky as I sleep very soundly and dont hear storms, phones etc.

Tillymint21 Tue 16-Mar-21 15:31:12

I feel I need about 7 to feel fully rested but I’m lucky to get more than 4-5 continuous hours’ sleep now, and that’s on a good night!

Happyhound Tue 16-Mar-21 14:52:36

I feel I need at least 7 hours to be alert during the day, and at the moment I’m only getting 5-6. I drop off quickly but wake up too early and can’t get back to sleep.

emziemay Tue 16-Mar-21 14:43:29

Probably 6-7 hours which isn't too bad if it is undisturbed. The worst thing is waking for the toilet after a couple of hours sleep and then being unable to fall asleep again.

gran1 Tue 16-Mar-21 14:30:46

About 6 or 7 hours a night but would like more and
going to sleep in the day causes even less hours asleep in bed

compfan Tue 16-Mar-21 14:07:45

I average 9 hours per night. Having worked shifts for decades I am now catching up :-)

rjm1709 Tue 16-Mar-21 13:19:13

I get up to get my husband off to work at 4.30am and then on some nights I don't get to bed until 11.30pm so about 5 hours on a good night. The medication I am on means some nights I don't sleep at all and other nights are really restless. I find myself nodding off during the day!

Babytige Tue 16-Mar-21 12:27:43

Usually around 7 hrs but as the mornings get lighter earlier I’ll be awake ‘with the Larks’ soon enough

stehol Tue 16-Mar-21 12:21:06

I go to bed around 10pm & get up at 7am, although I do wake in the night & struggle to get back off. I get around 7 hours sleep which is usually enough
