We’ve all heard that magic number of aiming for 8 hours sleep per night (we certainly wish!) But how much sleep do you ACTUALLY get a night?
And, more importantly, do you think you get enough? ? moon

I rarely get more than 6 hours anymore and that is interrupted sleep at that. I love sleep and miss having a good night’s rest. I never wake refreshed anymore.

Aww, your comment really stuck with me and I thought id add my two cents that can maybe help your situation somewhat. When I was in my early 60s I started experiencing sleep problems. I gave up on the idea of ever getting more sleep because I thought it was the givings of old age. But then I read this article by some sleep foundation and it said that the idea that older people sleep less is a myth, and its very much possible to improve our sleep quality. My issue with sleeping was that I used to get very anxious when Id get into bed. Id wake up within half an hour of falling asleep and then Id stay up around an hour before falling asleep for 3-4 hours again. I got sleeping pills online that helped me fall asleep, and I was happy with it. But it only worked for a short while because I would wake up feeling weird. So one solution that you can try is sleeping pills (www.vitaminexpress.org/uk/)and see if they work for you.
Another solution I want to recommend is getting sleep therapy. My sister started getting sleep therapy for insomnia last December and now she sleeps much better. Im also thinking of enrolling in a sleep therapy program. Where do you live, maybe we can try it together?

Not much last night. I've been awake on and off since 3.30am and a tad bleary eyed doing this. ?

I get around 8 hours, I go to bed around 11 and wake at 7 - sleep like a log.

I average about 6 hours sleep a night. I don't like going to bed early and I like getting up early. I don't like sleeping, I feel it is time wasted! and I really don't like dreaming. I wish you could just sleep without dreaming and wake refreshed! I know I should get about 7 hours at least so I should change my habits, but I find it hard.

6-8 hours is usually a good night but once or twice a week I have less!

5 hours last night. Went to bed at 12.30 read for 10 minutes couldn't switch off the brain. Got up at 1.30 and started a jigsaw. Back to bed an hour later and was soon asleep. I have difficulty getting to sleep if I have had a busy day. I keep replaying everything that has been done or said.

Around 5 on a good night, between being awake and worrying and overthinking in the wee hours.
I don't feel exhausted - so this is just what my body needs - or perhaps it's just got used to this pattern

Usually sleep between 7-8 hours , up for the loo about 4 0'clock, and I have a quick snooze in the afternoon, can't wait for the sun to shine so I can go in my hammock, don't feel so guilty when I snooze in the garden (wink)

BBbevan Sat 20-Mar-21 04:49:14

Just done 7 hours with 2 loo stops

JKilkelly9 Sat 20-Mar-21 04:34:39

I usually average between 7-9 hours, although it isn't continuous sleep it's very intermittent. My smart watch comes up with a different reading each morning.

Between 7 and 8 hours but do not go to bead early. Generally not asleep before 1am!

5-6 hours? Definitely been struggling to sleep well atm. I blame lockdown. It creates a constant low level anxiety.

Fairlyodd77 Fri 19-Mar-21 22:53:15

On average around 7 hours

mrsmcsporran Fri 19-Mar-21 22:37:39

About 6 hours. I know people who function well on less, but I feel like a zombie most of the time. I think if I slept how my body wants me to I'd need double that!

bexlord55 Fri 19-Mar-21 19:50:48

I get around 6 hours a night, I would like 8 but the neighbours dog always wakes me up!

Whatarethechances Fri 19-Mar-21 19:16:39

I get about 7 hours in the week, 7-8 hours at the weekend. I used to be up once or twice for the loo but fortunately managing to sleep through a bit more now.

SuzC Fri 19-Mar-21 18:34:07

I aim for 7 hours a night as have found this to suit me best nowadays - although when I was younger I could sleep FOREVER! Generally this means bed about 11 and up about 6.

ykellock Fri 19-Mar-21 17:28:46

Always in bed about 10 o'clock and get up about 7 am. Maybe up once for the loo during night though!

curlytops Fri 19-Mar-21 17:05:22

I usually get 7 hours of sleep, some of it disturbed

sharkgirl Fri 19-Mar-21 15:55:40

I'm normally 9 hours, bed at 10.30 awake 7.00 but don't actually get up till 8.30, I feel refreshed enough probably because I'm awake before I have to get up

daisybeebee Fri 19-Mar-21 15:48:23

Unfortunately I don’t sleep well at all , I count it a good night if I manage 4 to 5 hours sleep.

Katyl Fri 19-Mar-21 13:48:30

I sleep around 4 hours on a good night

lexigran Fri 19-Mar-21 13:15:22

I'm usually in bed for 8-9 hours but it's hard to say how much sleep I get. Sometimes I feel as though I've been awake for 2-3 hours but I probably drifted off at some point. My husband often disturbs me when he gets up for the loo and he has also started talking in his sleep and lashing out! It's hard to get back to sleep.
