And if so, does it help you sleep? Or do they keep you awake?

Having a pet in bed is a truly ghastly practice! I adore my beautiful cat , and she is very clean, but every pet has millions of germs in their fur/hair...and dogs are even more unhygienic than cats. So, the moral is: keep pets out of the bedroom.

No my dogs got her own bed.

Mistyfluff8 Fri 19-Mar-21 08:49:19

Yes one very fluffy cat called Misty would curl up like a fancy scarf around my neck at night on my pillow .Luckily for me she never bought any of the mice upstairs she loved to chase Shoe box was great at catching them downstairs

No way ! I’ve never allowed dogs or cats on the furniture, let alone the beds, I hate it when the everything is covered in hair or mud. She has her own which she loves.

What lovely pictures of so many dear pets.?

My Buzz sleeps in my room on his own bed. He knows better than to try to get on mine! ?

I no longer have any pets of my own, simply because I'm not physically fit enough to look after them. Sometimes l do however have my Daughters dog for a few days whilst she's away, and that will curl up on the floor beside me at night, as l tend to sleep downstairs. She's never allowed up onto any furniture though, and she knows it, and prefared the warm floor to her own bed!

My cocker spaniel would spend all night placing the landing and scratching my bedroom door if I shut him out.
He used to sleep on my bed until about 6months ago when he started pushing me right to the edge, leaving me with about 40cm of my double bed, since then he's been banished to the floor but he insists on lying right where I put my feet when I get out of bed. I'm sure he thinks he's guarding me!

So pleased to see this thread as pets in bed is a significant factor in how well - or not - that we sleep.

My cats do as they were adopted as adults and clearly used to sleep in bed with their previous owners. Shutting them out of the bedroom only results in lots of meowing and scratching at the door and I would get no sleep, anyway.

If I had a puppy or kitten, I would train them not to do so. Failing that, buy a super king-sized bed so everyone can fit!

I live on my own and my dog of 15 has always slept on my bed. It’s a real comfort not to feel alone. I guess only dog lovers will understand this and certainly don’t find it disgusting!

tictacnana my dog is a Yorkie cross Jack Russell as was my old boy, Yorkies are such lovely terriers.

twiglet77 Fri 19-Mar-21 01:41:16

My tiny dog sleeps on the end of my bed, past dogs slept beside it. The small cat would love to sleep on my bed, but the big cat sleeps in the spare bedroom and guards the upstairs, so small cat is too scared to come up even if I shut my bedroom door.

tictacnana Fri 19-Mar-21 00:49:27

Our Yorkie ,who was a rescue dog, slept with us and we slept better for him being there. He died last November and we miss him terribly.

Absolutely, mine do - I wouldn't be able to sleep without their company since my lovely husband died last May. Usually nowadays it's just 2 of my dogs - the cats and the other two dogs are apparently more into doing their own thing, but Monty and Isla and I are a bonded unit smile and they give my heart ease. Here's Monty, who got to bed before me this particular night.

Our small Parsons Jack Russell sleeps on and in our bed. He's 11 now, and when we first got him as a pup I didn't intend for him to be allowed upstairs never mind on the beds! He's very clean and loves to snuggle up close. He's a burrower so likes to be under the duvet on a cold night. I love the feeling of his warm, heavy body against my legs and the way he sighs blissfully when he's got himself settled. I probably don't get as good a night's sleep as I should, especially when I'm experiencing nighttime hot flushes! But he's such an important part of the family that we couldn't imagine him being shut away downstairs. We feel kind of honoured that another species feels comfortable enough to want to sleep with us!

We have two cats. We've had cats for years but these are our sons. He had one cat, not neutered as he lived in a third floor flat and the cat didn't go out. He left her at his girlfriend's parents whilst he was on holiday and it got pregnant. Three kittens arrived so he had four cats. One male cat was aggressive to his mother and sisters so we took it. Then he went to work abroad so we took one of the other now fully grown kittens a female. Initially we locked them in the kitchen at night, well pulled the door shut, but they kept escaping. Eventually we admitted defeat and the female often joins us on the bed during the night. She's heavy they are big cats. It doesn't help me sleep. She tends to come on my side and gets a gentle but persistent push from my husband if she goes on his side. She also snores quietly too.

My pooch snuggles for a nap on the couch but has her own comfy bed.

merlotgran Thu 18-Mar-21 20:58:02

Peggy has slept in bed with me since DH died two weeks ago. We have comforted each other.

The only problem is she now expects a lie in on a Sunday morning. grin

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Mar-21 20:07:36

Our dog has two beds one downstairs and one upstairs. At our bedtime he simply changes beds.

He is 12 in July and I fancy getting a bit stiff and arthritic. So we’ve bought him a heated blanket ready to use on cold nights or if he seems to be stiff.

rozina Thu 18-Mar-21 18:57:52

No, I don’t have a pet, but I’m sure if I had a cat it would sleep with me.

Mollybest1 Thu 18-Mar-21 18:01:20

Yes, my dog has a bed on the floor by my head end. In the mornings about 5 ish she will get up on the bed with us. When my husband is on night shift, she will sleep on the bed with me. She is my life saver, gave me a reason to carry on when things are hard.

Bluefushia Thu 18-Mar-21 17:54:06

Yes! We've three rescue cats, they seem to take it in turns to sleep with us. Big ginger likes to snuggle between us, black and white sleeps at the foot of the bed. Smallest and stripey likes shoulders and necks. Sometimes they wake us - but it's a small price to pay for the family being together.

redf8235 Thu 18-Mar-21 17:49:56

We have 2 cats that sleep with us. one is very heavy.
I really would rather they didn't but if locked out they rip up carpet outside door.
Cats rule in this house .

pluckyluckyme Thu 18-Mar-21 17:44:50

Have 3 cats and the elderly one sleeps on my bed and has her own throw that she always lies on. The other 2 sleep downstairs or on the stairs. I find it very soothing having a cat sleeping near me.

Alexa Thu 18-Mar-21 17:44:49

May Be, my lately deceased whippet lurcher was catlike as I have observed using that very word. She did not sleep in my bed. But my new dog sleeps under the covers with me in my bed. I do not know whether or not he did so with his former owner but he does seems to expect a lot of snuggles.

LMW1 Thu 18-Mar-21 17:23:18

Yes definitely our 2 Cats sleep with me.... My Husband's in a separate bedroom however smile
