And if so, does it help you sleep? Or do they keep you awake?

My Frenchie sleeps as close to me as he can.

OOOHHHH Frenchie I have 4 Pugs and an English Bulldog, I did have 3 Pugs on the bed until I rescued a bonded Pug and EB now the whole lot are on the bed with me and DH, I was worried about the farting and snoring but then I thought if DH keeps doing that he can sleep in the spare room, seriously I would imagine Frenchie's are very much like Pugs have to be near to you all the time, might get a Frenchie think there is room on the bed for one more little soft furry body

Yes she absolutely does. It's not disgusting.

I used to have cats but they normally never came in the bedroom, and I would never have an animal in my bed. I know too much about zoonosis and the thought of them shedding skin, hair, saliva and animal bacteria in my sheets is quite stomach-churning. Dogs lick and sniff where other dogs have been. Why would you want that in your bed? ?

Our dogs starts off in their baskets and then manage to find their way into our bed by the morning. They love to sleep in between us, one at the top of the bed and the other at the bottom.

When I had a dog he did sleep on the bed. I don’t think having a dog or cat in the bed ever affected my sleep though I think a turtle, fish, guinea pig would be a step too far.

Notchav76, same here with the little JRT. She's lovely and warm = like a hot water bottle!

It's not a problem as I do shower in the morning!

Yes, our staffy sleeps on our bed. Occasionally, if its a cold night in the bed right down where are feet are like a little hot water bottle smile

Yes he does most nights. He definitely hogs the duvet too! He is 22years old (140 in human years) my best friend and my beautiful pussycat has definitely got me through my nursing shifts this year. He is better than a snooze button as he will tap my nose gently when the alarm goes off ?

One cat usually sleeps with me and the other one sleeps on the landing. No point trying to shut the bed sleeper out because he just digs up the carpet and howls. Anyway I like having him with me.

JaneJudge Wed 17-Mar-21 20:27:26

No but if I was on my own I would most probably allow it

Are you kidding? Having 16lbs of Burmese cat land on you in the middle of the night is not fun ? Cats safely shut away at night.

Hahaha, this reminds me of a cat I had once. Lovely old boy. Big, dim, with a very sweet temperament (until he saw wildlife, but that's a different story).

I once woke up in the middle of the night, panicking because I couldn't breathe. No wonder. My sweet, fat boy was lying on my chest, purring into my face.

I've had dogs in bed with me since I was a child.

At one time there was the 2 of us and 3 dogs balancing on the bed.

Now it's just the 2 of us and our 2 pups start off on the bed then go on to their own beds that they have in our room.

Couldn't imagine leaving them downstairs.

Funnily enough one of our dogs never came upstairs. No idea why not, we'd had him since he was a pup. But he preferred to stay on the sofa.

I no longer have a cat but if I did it would not be allowed onto a bed . The thought of dogs in beds turns my stomach ?.

geekesse Wed 17-Mar-21 19:50:10

No way. Disgusting!

My dogs have always slept in the kitchen because my first dog became senile and incontinent and I reckoned it was better for my dogs to be used to sleeping somewhere that would be ok if they started having accidents. However my latest whippet leads a totally different life and is allowed to do things that my other dogs have never been allowed to do. So we cuddle up together every night. She’s the best hot water bottle you could have. It’s all really down to lockdowns etc and the fact that I’m now retired. I’m not sure that I’m totally happy with it but there’s no going back now. I always used to have a bed full of cats and whippets are very cat like.

One of my dogs sleeps on my bed and no she does not keep me awake, I have had her since she was six weeks old now she is 11 years and I could not imagine a night without her.

My other dog sleeps downstairs and has her own chair with her fluffy covers on which she leaves to come and greet me in the morning for food times and walking. The other dog does not go onto her chair.

My Geman Shepherd snuggles up when I go to bed, but after 10 to 15 minutes gets on his own bed. He loves to be close.

My dogs slept on a day bed in my room. Not on the bed with me far too hot. The cat sleeps outside in the barn. We only have one dog now so she has the bed all to herself.

foxie48 Wed 17-Mar-21 19:16:32

No, the dog isn't allowed upstairs but if I am feeling unwell or especially tired and have a snooze on the sofa he will curl up on my lap. There is something rather special about a cuddly dog!

My Frenchie sleeps as close to me as he can.

I have had cats (not the same ones obviously) for years. I LOVE having a cat to sleep on the bed with me, and I have always had one good, snoozy cat. The problem is, the others aren't so well behaved and after one memorable night, where there was a fight under the bed, a race OVER my head by 2 cats and my ex husband got bitten, when trying to push 1 of them off him, they have been banned from the bedroom.

I do occasionally try again with them. My girl cat will sleep OK until she decides it's bedtime and then she starts her antics, which gradually escalate from mews to patting me, to yowling and a claw or two. My boy cat is nocturnal and night time is play time.

So. No cats in the bedroom. Sad really. It could be so nice.

Lovely cats Jillyjosie and Artaylar

Jane43 Wed 17-Mar-21 18:49:26

Definitely not. my DH a very light sleeper and our dog is very nervous and gets upset at every little noise. From the first day we had him our dog goes into his crate at 10pm, the crate has a comfortable mattress, his water and is covered with a blanket on three sides so it is effectively his cave. We don’t hear a peep out of him until 7:30am when DH goes down and takes him for his first walk. He’s never bothered about anything when he’s in there, strong wind, heavy rain or fireworks have never bothered him.

EllanVannin Wed 17-Mar-21 18:41:33

2 of my cats sleep on top of the bed---- one either side of me so I feel as though I've got a straight-jacket on grin Doesn't stop me from sleeping through the night though, under the bedclothes on my left side and I don't move.
