Lilypops

Aquacise is very popular, the classes are always booked up quickly.

Ladies. Thankyou for all your help on joining a gym, I am tempted to look at Aqua classes, I like swimming so that would fit in , also Pilates I think would do my stiff muscles a lot of good., and whilst I am there at the gym I can look at other classes. I knew GN would give good advice. Thankyou

Yep back to the Gym today. I go about 8 am, average age I reckon mid 50's at that time of day. Its not show ponies, just us who are don't have pert behinds!
My Gym once you join has all the classes you can think of, which you book via their app. Swimming pools, sauna etc
See what's in your local area, before you decide.
I need a knee replacement (had Hip replacement) so the kit they have is perfect for non weight bearing and was brilliant for me after the Hip was sorted, and like "Sago" said a small price to pay for the extra benefits!
You also chat to like minded folk, I have really missed it since the last lockdown.

I agree yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi are all good forms of gentle exercise.

Sago Mon 12-Apr-21 16:56:44

I go because I feel virtuous afterwards!
I want to enjoy food and wine, the price I pay is the gym and walking.

I joined the gym a couple of years ago and absolutely love it despite misgivings that I already did enough exercise with dog walking and cycling. My gym does lots of classes- Pilates, yoga etc and has a lovely spa with pool, sauna etc plus Elemis treatments.
It’s my escape from the world and since joining I have never felt so well, although I need to get back into shape again since lockdown!

I prefer a one to one session with a personal trainer too. I can get the hour tailored to my needs in her own fitness studio. Especially now that I don't like too many people together. £40 an hour.

Have never been to a gym.

I walk, go swimming and do aquacise, when allowed.

That’s enough for me.

I prefer classes, but they are not happening yet.

Just come back from the gym, so good to be back.
The secret is to find something you enjoy. I used to love running but unfortunately foot and knee problems have put an end to that.
My gym is privately run, which I prefer, friendly and no “posing”. You may prefer one which has pool, spa etc.
I see a personal trainer once a week away from the gym since lockdown, he helps to keep me motivated and gives lots of ideas on different exercises you can do at home.
Pilates is very good for balance and toning and can be a gentle introduction, make sure you join a beginners class. I do mine online which means no one can see my appalling balance.
Good luck

If you choose a gym get a program set for you by a professional to include cardio and weights. Start slowly and gradually build up your fitness.

Can’t bear gyms! For the money they cost I’d rather swim and/or go to some classes like Pilates or yoga

GrannyGravy13 Mon 12-Apr-21 08:30:59

Pilates, Callanetics, Yoga or even a gentle legs, bums and tums class. Ask around locally for recommendations.

I LOVED going to the gym. It was real down time for me. After a workout, I would go for a swim as reward (definitely pick a gym with a pool).

Take your headphones and go. Get the heart pumping. Wonderful!

Try aerial yoga for something different. It's an amazing feeling taking the weight off your feet and floating. A bit like yoga, pilates, dance all in one.

M0nica Mon 12-Apr-21 08:05:53

I recommend Pilates or Tai Chi.

Now that gyms can reopen I am thinking of joining, I want to keep supple and keep my aching joints moving. I don’t want to jump about like a fanatical gym bunny ,but just doing excercise s that will keep me healthy,
Do you go to the gym and what do you do , I play golf twice a week but I feel it’s not enough , tips would be appreciated.
