I noticed my nails don’t split since starting D3 , but not noticed any difference in my mood

It seems to be recommended as we don't spend long enough outdoors in the sunshine to make our own.

Have been taking it since before CV19, but it was recommended for everyone last year as a boost to the immune system.

There is controversy over Vitamin D. It’s accepted that everyone should take it in the winter because we don’t get enough sun on our bodies during the winter months to make it as we do in the summer.

However, the NHS advice is that we should supplement with 10mcg a day. But many doctors think this doesn’t provide optimum levels for health, as opposed to minimum levels to avoid deficiency.
I follow Dr John Campbell & he recommends 25mcg a day. On his videos he explains how those with optimum Vit D levels were a) less likely to contract Covid and b) if they did contract it and were hospitalised, had better outcomes.
He thinks the NHS should have promoted its use right at the beginning of the pandemic - they did, belatedly, provide it for people who were shielding I think.
Google Dr John Campbell vitamin D if you’re interested.
It’s also been suggested that low Vit D levels are associated with depression.

Incidentally I take supermarket own brand - probably cheaper than vitabiotics.

I have been prescribed Ad Cal D3 (its Sunday title) since 2009 when I fell downstairs and had a # dislocation of my ankle which needed surgery. I had osteopenia and having taken the drug for so long my levels are obviously back to normal. I have to take it for life.

I have found these links.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/vitamin-d-for-vulnerable-groups/vitamin-d-and-clinically-extremely-vulnerable-cev-guidance

www.nhs.uk/conditions/vitamins-and-minerals/vitamin-d/

There is a section in the second link with the heading.

What happens if I take too much vitamin D?

It might be worth seeking advice from your doctor. A doctor can prescribe vitamins in certain situations. Even if the doctor cannot prescribe vitamin D for you in your particular circumstances, you might like to consider asking your doctor about it, maybe in a telephone appointment in these troubled times, if you have access to a telephone, then if the doctor agrees, then at least you would know that you were taking them with the knowledge and agreement of your doctor and it would most likely be on your medical record too.

For example, the doctor might advise on how much to take and might even suggest other vitamins and minerals.

I hope this helps.

I've starting taking Vit D after blood tests showed I'm very deficient (normal range is 50 plus, mine is 20). I haven't felt any different yet but I only started on Monday! Glad you are feeling better now.

I understand that your body can't store Vit D. However, I would think taking it over time would show some benefit.

Yes. the human body can store Vitamins A, D, E and K.

I take one 1,000 iU of vitamin D3 per day on the advice of my endocrinologist. I had hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcaemia and had surgery to remove 2 adenomas in 2019. I feel a lot better after my surgery and I’m sure the D3 must help with my wellbeing.

Just wanted some of your feedback on taking Vitamin D3. There is an old thread from 2019 but thought I would start a new one.

I started taking Vitamin D3 (25ug) about six months ago as I heard they were good for your immune system. I was hoping it might give me some protection from Covid.

I have been taking the Vitabiotics brand which I bought at the supermarket.

I have to say that recently I have noticed that my mood has improved and I don't have so many aches and pains.

Just to give a bigger picture, I am 63 and am currently working full time but from home. I am ashamed to say that I do barely any exercise and need to lose weight. I am not on any medication.

I am not one for taking supplements as a rule and I sometimes forget to take them.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had a good result from taking Vitamin D3 or is this all in my mind?
