Hi get results of my blood test last week, my cholesterol is very high ,and now classed as pre-diabetic I got a zoom call from a diabetic group next week I'm just wondering if to get myself a home testing kit or not what I'm not sure how often they actually test your cholesterol when you're pre-diabetic hoping somebody can give me some information or if anybody's got any hme kits do the work right thank you very much.

It is usually just the one yearly check up. I was told mine was 5.8. I refused tablets as I wanted to reduce with diet changes. I eat a lot of citrus fruit cut down on cheese and bread. Don’t have a lot of fried foods and it reduced to 5.0 so I hope it continues until the next test due in July. I am not pre diabetic but my husband was for about 8 yrs which he controlled through diet. But then was talked into statins I personally think the Dr gives tablets out too easily.

If you're serious about reducing cholesterol, you might need to consider cutting down on red meat.

Pre-diabetes is a different issue, although both can lead to blood vessel problems, and you need to lose weight and cut down on carbs. Replace the carbs with limited amounts of healthy fat.

I have heard of people getting good results with lowering cholesterol when they follow a low carb diet. Also, I understand you need to consider the three figures not just the one and make sure you’ve fasted before the test otherwise the figures are artificially high.
