Facial neuralgia

I'm glad you've found the source of the problem, Santana, that must have been a worry for you.

My dear MIL suffered from facial neuralgia and I saw how painful it was for her. Fingers crossed you see a further improvement over time.

Of course, with our weather, it's unlikely you'll need the air con on for much longer anyway!

I have trigeminal neuralgia which feels as though I have been tasered in to my eye and top half of my face. I need brain surgery to resolve the problem, but this isn't possible due to a history of strokes, so I pop the pills (50 mg Amitriptyline, 900mg Gabapentin and 1000mg Tegretol which keeps it more or less manageable. But it is my nightmare. They call it the suicide condition.

My sympathies to all of you suffering this terrible condition. My son was diagnosed with it a few years ago after a very frightening hospital admission during which he underwent tests for a brain tumour, meningitis, amongst others. By a process of elimination they settled on trigeminal neuralgia. When his partner took him to A&E he was in so much pain he was banging his head on the wall. While he was in hospital not even morphine touched his pain. He was eventually prescribed amytriptyline which did help and he has recently been able to come off this. He still has to be very careful about cold weather, cold water and other possible triggers.

His first experience followed a difficult wisdom tooth extraction, but there’s no clear link with that. It could have been cause or effect. I believe people have had several teeth extracted in looking for a cure for the pain they experience, only to realise there is nothing wrong with their teeth. It’s a dreadful condition, but if my son is anything to go by there can be some hope.

I'm really pleased to have found this thread too. I've today been finally diagnosed as having Trigeminal Neuralgia(it's been a long road). I just wondered if anyone else that suffers from it could recommend a support group?

Type TN in the Facebook search box. There are support groups for every type of illness and they are closed groups so none of your FB contacts can read the posts.
