Dry Eye

I know over the years there have been threads about this dry eye condition, but I wanted to know what the up to date thinking was on remedies.

Although I have dry eye it actually manifests itself as wet, runny eyes especially outside if it is cold or windy. My eyes just stream.

I’ve seen my optician and followed his advice for 6 months which included warm flannel night and morning on my eyes, his recommended drops Duo .. something. Sadly no proper improvement. I want to have one more concerted go before I speak to him about having the tear ducts unblocked.

I’ve read today taking Omega 3 1000 can help. Do any of you take this please ?

I bought some horrendous looking sunglasses which protects my eyes when I am out and it does reduce the streaming a bit but they are not prescription. They have white plastic bits round the lens to stop the cold wind affecting my eyes. They are far from satisfactory.

I have researched online to find plastic over glasses that scientists might wear, but I haven’t found ones that completely cover the eye.

My eyes are relatively ok indoors which is a relief.

I had eye surgery to cure this condition. My GP referred me to an ophthalmologist who diagnosed the condition. The operation was done under local anesthetic and I went home about an hour later. I'm so glad to be free from a constantly runny, sore eye. It is now about four years since the surgery. I hope you get help with your problem.

Thank you Aldom I suspect that I will follow your example.

Kate, I think a visit to your GP is needed. I have a condition called Sjogren's Syndrome, which manifests it's self in a similar way. Sometimes I can hardly see and other factors can make it worse. Hayfaver also has an impact on it. This morning eyes are alternating between being so dry my vision is blurry and streaming. I can understand how miserable it is making you.
Please don't try to sort it yourself, ask for help, you have done all you can.

There was an article in yesterday's Mail blush about using fish oil supplements. In the health bit. I have ripped it out for a neighbour who is also afflicted by this.

I have blepharitis which sounds very much like your problem.
No one has suggested blocked tear ducts, so maybe not the same.
Bathing eyes twice a day helps, with a little baby shampoo in water when really sore, does help. I have drops on prescription in a little capsule which are better than those optician sold me.
I wear swimming goggles in shower to keep out perfumed hair products. I can't wear eye makeup or use eye cream, and even face cream seems to creep up my eye wrinkles!
Big hat when sun out as well as sunglasses. I haven't solved the wind problem though, and just stream and stream.
I never got to see my GP, just practice nurse who said she gets watery eyes sometimes, so that's ok then.
I did manage to chat with nurse in eye clinic when I was working at the hospital, who said I was doing all the right things.
You do need to get to your surgery though to get checked out.

Thanks all WHEN the surgery will allow me to actually see a doctor, I think I need to take the next step and get medical advice. I’m lucky I only get sore or gritty eyes occasionally, it’s mostly Niagara Falls when outside.

Kitty the Mail has excellent medical and financial info. ?
