Sudden bladder problem

I’ve never had this before but my bladder is suddenly causing me problems. I woke at 3am needing the bathroom but couldn’t get there in time, my bladder suddenly emptied. Yes I need to see a doctor but it’s 3am on a Saturday morning and tomorrow we have a long drive to visit family I’m dreading the journey. Should I just get a packet of pads from the chemist?
Any advice on what to do? I’m getting in a panic over it.

How worrying for you. Hopefully it’s just a one off and that it was because your body was so relaxed after sleeping. It has happened to me once when something made me laugh…so embarrassing. Yes, it might be best to be prepared with pads but hopefully you’re ok this morning and all will be well for your visit.

Could you have a UTI or prolapse come on? I'd get it checked out as soon as you can. If it's a UTI, you want to get onto that. I'm sure family will understand if you are late or can't come because you might be unwell and need to get checked. Otherwise pads are an option. Hopefully it's a one off.

You may have a urinary tract infection. Drink lots of water and ask a pharmacist what they recommend if you can't speak to a doctor. (cranberry juice is NOT any use)
Pads would do no harm and would prevent you from worrying about accidents but tell whoever is driving you will need frequent stops and insist on them.
Good luck.

mrsmopp you need medical help asap. Sounds like a UTI if not treated can turn to kidney infection. I have had recurring UTIs and kidney infections since September. On the list for a urologist. The stuff pharmacies sell are no use. If it's a UTI you need antibiotics. Is there a walk in centre you can phone by you if so do so and they will probably want a urine sample. Please don't leave it as if it is a UTI it will only get worse. Not to frighten you but you don't want let get to the stage where you are passing blood and weeing makes you shout out. I let one go that far once. Never again.

Pads are a good idea but treatment is needed.

May I make a suggestion , that you get pants rather than pads .

I worked with in a special school with incontinent adult sized young people taking care of their personal needs along with their education.
The pants are far more reliable than pads to avoid mishaps.

I hope you get it sorted ASAP .

Hi I hope you are OK. Of course you're worried.. My sister had the same thing happen and she had every single test going and they diagnosed her with having an overactive bladder. Hers is with very sudden urgency, sometimes she has to lay in a foetal position to stop herself from urinating in public. I hope whatever it is the doctors are able to get to the bottom of it and would wear the always pants as they're quite discreet and absorbent. X

Ring 111 to see out of hours GP if possible. Meanwhile take temp, drink buckets of water and if determined to go on long journey buy some incontinence pants and wipes.

Currently suffering with bladder weakness and had the awful whoosh of bladder accident on Saturday luckily was at home-have GP appt this p.m. its soo worrying...my late Mom died of bladder cancer so know of the symptoms and although i'm not thinking totally its the start of serious condition, my anxiety is making it worse...Dread going out but had purchased the pants sometime ago before i really needed them but they do give protection and smell nice..

Update!
Ringing 111 did the trick the doctor emailed the prescription to Sainsbury and we went and collected it. I was amazed! A bladder infection at our age needs to be sorted. I was wrong to assume that drinking lots of water would clear it. I was also feeling confused which also part of it - a very unpleasant feeling.

Glad it’s sorted, now my suggestion is to keep an eye on this in future as you say bladder infection needs sorting and actually shouldn’t happen so look after yourself xx
