Hello folks

There was a thread a couple of days ago about oxygen therapy, it didn’t get many replies and I can’t find it.

Anyway, the situation is: DH has been in hospital since Tuesday with a very bad chest infection (post Covid).
He’s been on an antibiotic drip and had oxygen all of the time.

He announced this morning that he would be coming home this pm.
Two hours later he rings again, saying that he won’t be out until tomorrow or Tuesday ‘because they are having trouble sorting out the oxygen’.

Well this is all news to me.
I did really hope that he would be having some sort of oxygen set-up at home, but apart from that I’m completely in the dark.

He said that ‘there will be one upstairs and one downstairs’.
He isn’t the most gifted of communicators at the best of times, and I didn’t want to hassle him, so I’m really not sure what to expect.

I will definitely call the ward tomorrow for all of the information, but I wondered, in the meantime, do any of you lovely lot have any experience of this type of thing?

Excuse the rambling!
Thank you ?

Why don't you phone today, Fanny. Why wait and worry?

Elegran Sun 15-Aug-21 12:22:05

Could you contact the ward he is in and ask for more information about the oxygen? They probably know as well as you do by now that he "isn’t the most gifted of communicators at the best of times"

Crossed posts, Marydoll.

Hi Fanny

My Mum lived with us and had oxygen in her room upstairs (she was in her 90s and didn't venture downstairs much) It was delivered and set up for us and we (well me!) were told how to use it. I can't remember the name of the company that delivered it . Air Liquide or similar I think.

The electricity company were informed so that if there was a power cut they would make sure we had a back up generator and the Fire Service were told. I think we also had to let our Insurance company know.

The worst bit was getting her to give up smoking once it was fitted...!

Hello Fanny, hope this helps. My husband was on oxygen 16 hours a day.Air liquide installed a concentrator in our dining room along with thin tubing which would reach upstairs and downstairs. It was relatively quiet when switched on .The Fire service installed smoke alarms. We were reimbursed for the electricity used.My husband was a lot more comfortable with oxygen being dispensed this way rather than with oxygen cylinders which were used when he left the house.

My MIL had oxygen at home just for when she needed it but that was many years ago and I'm sure it has all been modernised since then.

I'm sorry to hear that your DH is poorly again, FannyC after his bout of Covid and hope he'll soon be on the mend.

Hello again
Thank you all so much for your kindness
After all that, he isn’t going to have oxygen after all. In fact, I’m not even sure where he got the idea from that he thought that he was, and neither does the (wonderful) HCP that I spoke to confused
As you can see, I rang the ward as I was told to (thank you Mary and Elegran)
It was absolutely the right thing to do.
I’m confident that things will be done properly this time.
I’ll be back again later x
