I was prescribed statins nearly 3 months ago. Didn’t have a problem until 2 weeks ago with cramping pains in my calf muscles, sleep problems. I feel it is due to the statins, doctor has halved my dose this week but still having same problems.

Dad stopped taking statins after years of being on them, with side effects. He saw a naturopath who advised him to take niacin (vit D), at a certain dose, instead of statins. Success!

Needless to say, my hubby has swapped to Niacin instead of statins and his GP has been monitoring him. His cholesterol has gone down and remains stable. You can get the non flushing version of niacin too.

Good luck!

Niacin is Vitamin B3 (just in case anybody taking Vit D thought they were taking something which lowers cholesterol levels). Careful with taking a so-called "no-flush" niacin.

After I decided against statins I wrote to my GP stating the reasons why I decided against statins.

I am pretty sure my GP sees me as awkward, but as I have had to suffer from people considering me awkward all my life, I do not let this bother me. You can just change your doctor.

I wrote earlier about my experience with statins, after a heart attack, After which I had scans which showed blockages in one artery by cholesterol. I had
2 stents (little props) inserted.
I watched it all on a screen, fascinating!
But since reading the thread again I realise most of you take them on advice to PREVENT a heart attack, Which seems to me an entirely different situation.

My parents used to go for a long walk every day but then my dad had a blood test which showed high cholesterol and he was put on statins. He got such bad pains in his legs that they stopped going for walks. Dad died within two years. I'm not saying it was the statins although if they had been able to carry on taking long walks he may have lived longer. Whenever my GP tries to get me on statins I refuse, point blank. Mainly they (or maybe PHE) decided a few years ago that the 'norm' should be below 3.0 when it had been 5.2 for donkeys years. It's probably a bit like a civil servant deciding that social distancing should be 2 metres. Where's the science? It's all to do with make Big Pharma for profits.

I have stopped taking statins 3 weeks ago, but I still have the pains in my legs. When will I be normal again! I am despairing.

Still getting leg pains. Have been waiting 3 weeks to get a blood test, nothing booked yet. Losing the will to live!
