New scar

I had a dizzy spell about 2 weeks ago, fell and cracked my head.
Now I have a 5-6 inch gash on my forehead!
Just in time for Halloween!
I'm frightening the horses as I look like Frankensteins girlfriend (remember her from the film, frizzy hair stood up on end. That's me as I havent styled it since I fell?).

Its healing but it looks as if it will be a groove with thick skin either side.

What I want to know is if anyone had tried oils that say they will diminish scar tissue and do they work?

Ever hopeful Thanks.

Aqueous cream was recommended by surgery nurse for my knee replacement scar. Cheap for a big tub from chemist. Massage in regularly.

Another recommendation for Bio Oil. I cut my cheek after a fall against the edge of a chest of drawers, and thought it would leave me scarred as it was quite deep. I used Bio Oil each evening and now it hardly shows, I was very impressed with it.

I'll look that up Mattsmum2 Thankyou.

I’m seeing a plastic surgeon about my keloid scar from open heart surgery. He said you only really need something like E45 cream. I use kelocote also.

I hope it all works, Namsnanny.

Yes I think your suggestion is the way to go Callistemon. I've been using the Bio oil at the moment as the silicone strips havent arrived yet.

Callistemon Tue 05-Oct-21 22:35:34

I'd use the silicone strips first as they are supposed to flatten the scar then start with the Bio Oil later on then.

Good point Elless. So it's one or the other then?

Elless Tue 05-Oct-21 14:29:34

Good luck with both Namsnanny I'm sure you already realise but the silicone won't stick if you use the oil. My sons plasters used to last for days even though he bathed every day.

Thank you for all your suggestions.
I've just spent a fortune on some silicone dressings and Bio oil!!
Hope they make some difference.
It's the depth of the groove that is most noticeable.
I should have had stitches but couldn't face the 6 hour wait in AE.
So I went home and put iced peas on it for 48 hours.

I used Rio Rosa Mosqueta Rosehip Seed Oil on my operation scars & it worked wonders for me. It seems a bit pricey but you only need a wee bit each time so a little goes a long way

Another thumbs up for Bio oil. DD used it on her extensively damaged arm after a road accident and it really did help.

The nurse who removed the dressing on my TKR wound a week ago advised using Vaseline twice a day. It’s doing a great job at promoting healing.

I also recommend Bio Oil which I used on a surgery scar on my wrist about 16 years ago. It healed perfectly and is virtually invisible.

Manuka Honey is very good but it must be top grade.

Aveline Mon 04-Oct-21 21:30:45

Ooh I couldn't bear anyone to touch my knee!!

Auntieflo Mon 04-Oct-21 16:36:36

I meant to say as Callistemon has mentioned, that firm massaging is a great help, certainly was on my knee scar.

Aveline Mon 04-Oct-21 15:35:58

Bio oil is great and also smells lovely

Callistemon Mon 04-Oct-21 14:41:20

Elless

When my son was young he had a big hip operation and ended up with a large keloid scar, Alder Hey prescribed him a waterproof sheet of silicone scar covering that you cut to size. I can't remember the name of it but they do similar ones on Amazon. It massively reduced the scar.

Yes, I was prescribed that by the hospital for large scars. It seemed to work well.

Callistemon Mon 04-Oct-21 14:39:15

Yes, I've used Bio Oil and also one recommended by a nurse called Flexi Oil but I dont think it's sold any more.

Another tip was to break open a Vitamin E capsule, mix the Vit E oil with a bland moisturiser and use that.

The massaging helps as much as whatever oil/moisturiser you use on the scar.

Georgesgran I suppose the thinking is that moisturising keeps the skin supple as it heals.

Namsnanny Mon 04-Oct-21 13:32:43

Another recommendation that's worth a try. Thankyou for bothering to reply Sparklefizz

Sparklefizz Mon 04-Oct-21 12:57:18

Rescue Remedy Cream. I had a suspect mole on my cheek removed and had 2 stitches in it. The stitches were removed after a week and I applied Rescue Remedy Cream for a couple of weeks and the scar which was approx 2 cm across, vanished.

Georgesgran Mon 04-Oct-21 12:53:24

DD1 was recommended she use Nivea on a scar after neck surgery, but I’d echo regular use of any moisturizer.
