Covid Toe condition

It’s more common among children and young people I believe.
I remember it being mentioned at the ‘official’ start of the Covid business in Spring last year.
Children were developing Covid toe when they weren’t really showing any other symptoms.

Yes, Bea, I had it back in March last year when I isolated for a week because of a sudden, hacking cough that lasted just 12 hours. No other symptoms at all. I suffered from chilblains as a child, but only in the depths of winter and before central heating.

Then my son developed red and purple lumps across his fingers last summer. His GP prescribed antibiotics that did nothing, Dr Maggie recognised them as chilblains, which he’d never had. Again, no other symptoms.

Apparently it is an immune response by the body.

Maggiemaybe sorry to hear about your chilblain symptoms but you triggered a memory of 'being told off as a child in the 50s for sitting too close to the fire' Mother always used to say you'll get chilblains! Never did but enjoyed the coal fire and would sit on top of it ..freezing house no central heating.

I have got Achenbach's Syndrome which is very similar. I self diagnosed off the internet because a thick GP when I went to see him in the middle of summer said "oh you have chillblains" Its not just me thinking he was thick he came to the surgery on a six month trial and didn't stay.

December 2019 through to February 2020 I had a terrible cough from a virus which couldn't have been Covid . I kept getting a stinging pain in my fingers or palms then a little bruise would appear as if a small blood vessel had burst and the hot, stinging feeling would go. It did go on for months and still happens but not so often now.

We’d have frozen solid if we hadn’t sat close to the coal fire in those days, wouldn’t we? Though ours was challenging. We’d use sea coal on it and every so often a scrap of red hot mussel shell would fly out of the flames and zip past your ear. Nobody nodded off in front of that fire!

Diverting the OP I know, but talk of sitting almost on top of the fire reminds me that on a wet Monday it was impossible to get near it for the three sided clothes horse, loaded up with damp sheets! Happy days - not!

Georgesgran oh yes the 3sided clothes horse..always had pride of place.. house smelt of washing and cosy...happy days?
