I've have a pessary ring fitted 5 weeks ago and last week started with what I thought was a urine infection. I did a dip stick test and it showed no urine infection or white blood cells. But did show trace of red blood.waited another week and the same thing, thinking I've got a urine infection. So rang the Dr, dropped a urine sample in on Friday. Wating to see if there's a urine infection.. I have never had a urine infection showing red blood cells.. Only white.. I'm thinking have I got a kidney or bladder stones. No pain in either places. Anyone had this problem.. Or have you had a Pessary ring fitted and it's caused you problems

I had a pessary inserted years ago, both when I was pregnant and then until I had a hysterectomy, with no problems.

However, I was advised that it could cause irritation and some bleeding and if so, to contact my GP for advice.
You may not be aware of any irritation, but it still may be happening. Might be advisable to have it checked out, for peace of mind.

If you have come on here seeking advice, it is probably concerning you. Best wishes for a positive resolution.

Hi, thank you for your reply.. I'm talking with Dr tomorrow again. Yes I feel its a bit concerning. I was told what you said about the Pessary ring can cause irritation. But to be honest I don't even know it's there.. So let's hope it's nothing and something.. Cheers

I have my fingers crossed for you.

I have detected a trace of blood in my urine several times following a possible UTI (I have my own test strips). I was investigated once and it was put down to age related change, a thinning of the membranes. A course of oestrogen pessaries sorted me out.
I hope it will be just as simply solved for you.

Thank you very much for your reply. I too have test strips and monitor regular due to constant urine infection. I hope I get sorted soon and I'll get back to you ladies and give you a update..

I was wondering why /how you had access to strips. I have to be checked for leukocytes on a regular basis, due to my meds, but have to have it done at the surgery.

I bought my own One-step 10 available from Amazon. I couldn't get them on prescription and I bought them some years ago when I had a UTI. I've just had another and replaced them as first were out of date. But I've seen levels go down this week, after antibiotics. I ordered them last Sunday, they were here Monday morning. They test for 10 things including leukocytes. Cost about £10 plus postage.

fairfraise, thank you very much for that info. I am going to order some.
I was unable to have them checked when I was shielding, as I was too vulnerable, but when I ended up in Coronary Care, they checked them for me and they were found to be very high.

Same as Shysal. I lost blood in urine. No infection found. Was tested for cancer. Fortunately it wasn't and I was diagnosed as having a lack of oestrogen and given pessaries. So please don't worry. It's probably something as simple as that.

I ordered them from the supplier that had the most reviews, near the top of the Amazon list.
