If you watch Ed Balls Crisis in Social Care documentary, you will see more on the horrific cost of social care! A documentary we should all watch as we all face end of life challenges!

I think these figures are very simplistic as they do not take into account that the cap is only on costs for nursing care, the costs of “ board and lodging” are discounted.

And in some cases the costs are more than in a luxury hotel.

I think these figures are very simplistic as they do not take into account that the cap is only on costs for nursing care, the costs of “ board and lodging” are discounted. As far as I am aware, there has been no indication of how these costs will be worked out but for many dementia sufferers, nursing costs could be very low.

At over £1000 a week, the cap for my mum would indeed allow her not to have to sell her home but if only £200 is considered as health care costs, then she will still end up using her savings and selling her house.

And if you add in the travesty that is continuing health care funding, this is hardly a reform of social care.

Many thousands of those who will fall under these new rules should simply not be paying anything at all, as they have sufficient health care needs to qualify for funding from the health authority. In the main they do not know this.

A simple graphic on the BBC today explained the impact of the new social care bill:
How much will I be left with under the government's new (social care) proposal:
starting assets:£100, 000 > left with £20,000
starting assets:£270, 000 > left with £184,000
starting assets:£500, 000 > left with £414,000
(assets primarily being one's home)
Great levelling up!
