Many thousands of those who will fall under these new rules should simply not be paying anything at all, as they have sufficient health care needs to qualify for funding from the health authority. In the main they do not know this.

I think these figures are very simplistic as they do not take into account that the cap is only on costs for nursing care, the costs of “ board and lodging” are discounted. As far as I am aware, there has been no indication of how these costs will be worked out but for many dementia sufferers, nursing costs could be very low.

At over £1000 a week, the cap for my mum would indeed allow her not to have to sell her home but if only £200 is considered as health care costs, then she will still end up using her savings and selling her house.
