Is anyone familiar with this expression? I never heard of it before but it was mentioned in a letter from my consultant to my GP. I have recurring gynae cancer and have had surgery several times. I’m wondering if this is bad news. I have an appointment in 10 days time. Maybe someone on here has experience of this?

I have a friend who has had breast cancer for almost as long as I have known her. She had 2 ops plus chemo etc but then they opted for palliative treatment about 15 years ago. I honestly forget that she is not completely healthy.

My friend and her husband have both received palliative care. My friend’s cancer was very aggressive, and her treatment was to buy her some time, which she used making sure her daughter would be ok. Her husband has a much less aggressive cancer, and thanks to developments in his treatments, is going from strength to strength. (Great news for him and their daughter).
Good luck with it all.

mrsmopp I hope your appointment went well and you received reassurance from your specialist.
I have blood cancer of a type that cant be cured only maintained so I am on palliative chemo for life. What it does is ensure my blood count is kept within "reasonable limits" but it will never cure me. I take 1 dose 5 days a week (none on the weekend) and although it has made me very immunosuppressed I am able to get on with life (taking obvious precautions).
Sometimes the big C word makes you think its a death sentence but not all cancers are.
Please look after yourself and ask ask ask if you have questions, some doctors forget we are not all medically trained in their language!
