Poor you, I sympathise having ended up in A&E on Boxing Day. I was using my carving knife, newly sharpened, to slice cold beef, but sliced the end of my thumb off instead! I was pouring with blood even when wrapped a cloth around it so knew I needed stitches. My sister, from the US, was with me but cannot drive my car so called a taxi as I thought it would be quicker than an ambulance - and I did not want to phone 999 anyway for a minor injury.
Taxi refused to take me as still bleeding so I grabbed a Tesco plastic bag to put my arm in then he agreed to drive me the few miles to our local hospital! Luckily it was very quiet so I went straight through to a cubicle and ended up with 8 stitches to sew the flap down.
I have never seen so much blood!
