Christmas mishap

I tripped up yesterday at my DD's and have broken a bone in my foot - the same foot in which I broke 2 bones about 7 years ago. I have a boot and a frame; and crutches for upstairs.

I have been on two sticks for three weeks anyway because of right hip replacement problem and acute sciatica - I had been given a pain relief patch for all of that and thankfully it has meant the broken foot is less painful than it could have been.

Such a shame after a lovely Christmas with family.

Bad luck, hope it soon heals. Do you think you should change your username?!

Blossoming Mon 27-Dec-21 17:38:55

How awful for you, I hope you heal soon flowers

Aveline Mon 27-Dec-21 17:52:35

Oh dear. What rotten luck you're having. I hope your DDs are looking after you.

I have endless problems with legs and feet so I know how awful it can be when you're in pain and can't move around easily. I hope you heal quickly and can look forward to getting around more in the Spring and Summer.

Oh bad luck Luckygirl. Let’s hope 2022 is a huge improvement!

Baggs Mon 27-Dec-21 18:36:25

Gah! Rotten luck, er, lucky! Glad the painkillers are working though. This too will pass.

I can recommend double doses of Baileys and mugs of tea if you can't sleep, plus a good book to read.

Healing vibes winging their way....

Oh dear - poor you. Hope you feel better soon flowers

V3ra Mon 27-Dec-21 18:53:13

So easily done isn't it? Hopefully the pain patch will keep it all under control and you feel better soon xx

Luckygirl3 Mon 27-Dec-21 19:41:11

Thank you for the friendly and healing vibes.

Some of you will know that my previous user name was Mishap but I had to change it for various reasons. Hmmm !

It is such a challenge when on your own to carry anything when on crutches (upstairs) and frame (downstairs). Plate of dinner? - well, no. Glass of water? - well, no. Thank goodness I had a stairlift put in when I moved in in March.

Sorry to hear your lovely Christmas Day was marred by an accident Luckygirl. I hope you can manage the pain and it heals quickly. ?

Fleur20 Mon 27-Dec-21 20:05:48

For practical reasons can you acquire a frame for upstairs too?

Teacheranne Mon 27-Dec-21 20:09:55

Poor you, I sympathise having ended up in A&E on Boxing Day. I was using my carving knife, newly sharpened, to slice cold beef, but sliced the end of my thumb off instead! I was pouring with blood even when wrapped a cloth around it so knew I needed stitches. My sister, from the US, was with me but cannot drive my car so called a taxi as I thought it would be quicker than an ambulance - and I did not want to phone 999 anyway for a minor injury.

Taxi refused to take me as still bleeding so I grabbed a Tesco plastic bag to put my arm in then he agreed to drive me the few miles to our local hospital! Luckily it was very quiet so I went straight through to a cubicle and ended up with 8 stitches to sew the flap down.

I have never seen so much blood!

Luckygirl3 Mon 27-Dec-21 21:26:14

Ouch! - gosh that sounds awful! I am glad it is all stitched up now and hope it is not too sore.

I'm sorry that 2 ladies had accidents over Christmas I hope you are both settling now and have good pain control and someone to help you.

Josieann Mon 27-Dec-21 22:40:44

Oh dear Luckygirl and Teacheranne you poor things. I hope you are both recovering ok and have got over the shock.
I slipped on a wet rock on Christmas morning and cut my hand across the palm. Like you say lots of blood, but I had an ffp2 mask in my pocket and pressed it on the wound. There was blood on my coat and down the sleeve of my jumper. Back home my son is a first aider, and though we didn't have any steri strips to hand he made some butterfly type plasters to go across the cut. I took them off this afternoon but one bit was sunk into the wound, so I cut round it. I'm not sure that was a good idea because the sharp bit left behind is hurting when I touch anything.

Bad luck to both of you. I hope you both feel better soon. Accidents always seem to happen at holiday time maybe our minds are on so many things at once. My friend cut the end of her finger off last week with a mandolin and they wrapped it in seaweed at the hospital.the kitchen sounded like the Texas chain saw massacre.
Take care both [flowers}

Lucky, I can remember your earlier history of injury and so sorry to hear that it has happened to you again. I hope that the treatment you've received this time will be 100% successful - and better luck in the New Year.

Esspee Mon 27-Dec-21 23:12:47

Are you taking anything to strengthen your bones?
I hope everything heals well and that will be the last broken bone you suffer from.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 28-Dec-21 08:34:05

Poor you Teacheranne. What a nasty experience. Thank goodness your sister was there to help. I hope your thumb soon heals. Must be very painful, inconvenient too as we use our thumbs constantly.

sodapop Tue 28-Dec-21 08:39:09

Chapter of accidents for some of you over Christmas, I hope you are all recovering and the injuries not too serious. Hope you have some help at home. Take care thanks

Luckygirl3 Tue 28-Dec-21 10:07:27

Esspee - I have had at least 7 bone breakages in my lifetime, starting when I was 18 months old. I do have osteoporosis and am on every possible treatment .... I try to be very careful so as not to break anything else, but sometimes these things just happen out of the blue - and when they do, my bones are vulnerable to breakages. I keep telling my DDs (in their 30s and 40s) to take calcium, or to get their levels checked.

henetha Tue 28-Dec-21 10:13:00

Get well soon. That was really bad luck wasn't it.

Witzend Tue 28-Dec-21 10:18:31

Oh, Lord, Luckygirl3, what a bummer. ?for rapid healing.

Such a pain - literally and metaphorically - when walking is difficult. I once managed to break a toe shortly before we were due to go on holiday - thankfully it didn’t stop me swimming in the sea, but the sort of sightseeing that involves wandering around for hours was right out. A short hobble was my limit.

kittylester Tue 28-Dec-21 10:24:55

Crikey, Lucky! I hope the painkillers are really good ones and that you get better soon.
