I have had an attack of Transient Global Amnesia. In my case it was very short, about 20-30 minutes, but a friend was out of it for 24 hours. There was no obvious reason for mine, nor my friends. We were not under any exceptional stress.

You only ever have one attack of TGA. If it ocurs twice it isn't TGA!

farview, I do hope your grandson remains OK.

Pleased to hear farview. We worry more about our children and grandchildren than about ourselves. Now have a good rest! x

Excellent news farview. It’s is frightening to witness but it is a benign condition. We didn’t go to the doctor. I was apprehensive for a good few days afterwards I recall. It never happened again.

baubles Mon 07-Feb-22 08:46:42

Sorry - farview.

baubles Mon 07-Feb-22 08:45:51

*farvuew^, what a frightening experience for your grandson and all the family. Pleased to hear that he has been discharged and that it’s nothing more serious.

farview Mon 07-Feb-22 08:31:56

Madgran77..think that's possibly what happened...he was sent home about 1a.m...had blood tests etc and told to go back if it recurs...heck what a frightening experience for him...I hardly slept a wink....thank you all ?

Allsorts Mon 07-Feb-22 06:41:28

How very worrying for all of you. Hope all is well soon.

BlueBelle Mon 07-Feb-22 06:28:39

Farview My best friend had transient global amnesia and lost two days she was doing her normal things without having any idea she was doing them She had no knowledge she had been to her doctors until she saw a urine bottle on her kitchen table and rang up to find out why she had it She must have got herself home on the correct bus

Migraine can cause a lot more than headaches my grandson similar age, speech went (temporarily)terrifying but after brain scan it was migraine

The trouble with having an attack of Transient Global Amnesia is that not all doctors know about it. My husband had an attack last year and we were given a diagnosis of Altzheimers by an A&E doctor. This was very upsetting and also as we have had a close relative with this and know a little about it didn’t seem right. We went to see a very highly qualified Neurologist who gave us the diagnosis of Transient Global Amnesia. In my husband’s case the attack lasted about 8 hours and it still takes longer sometimes for memory to return to normal although he has no memory of the missing 8 hours.

So sorry to hear this. I hope you have good news in the morning.

Urmstongran Sun 06-Feb-22 22:19:50

Transient Global Amnesia?
Himself had an episode once. Scared me to death. He recalled nothing of it. Slowly over an hour or so, his memory came back.
I read afterwards it’s more frightening for any observers.
You can say that again.
Googled it. “A one off event”.
I do hope that’s all this is farview.

Callistemon21 Sun 06-Feb-22 22:16:00

farview
I'm sorry to hear this, it's very worrying for you all.

I hope it is just what other posters have suggested, Transient Global Amnesia, and that it resolves itself soon.

Best wishes flowers
