Hi everyone,

Has anyone had sores on the roof their mouth before? it started about a week ago and is towards the soft bit at the back, the pain has settled down now, but there is redness still, I can't get in at the dentist for a while either. Just curios as what this might be, if anyone has had anything similat

Did you see the pharmacist about it Debbiedoo44? I found ours really helpful.

My GP did see me about my lip MayBee70, I was worried I might have mouth cancer. She did insist I also visited the dentist.

I’m not sure that a GP will look at anything to do with the mouth. I was told that they did no training on anything mouth related but that might just apply to dental work.

If you have a long wait for a dentist's appointment, you could ask your GP to look at it.

I have no idea what could cause the sore, but glycerin put on sores in the mouth with your finger tip will probably help.

I have used Orajel dental gel for any problem with teeth or gums. Because of COVID I didn’t go to the dentist but I can’t give that as an excuse anymore and need to make an appointment. It does give relief to any discomfort in the mouth Benzocaine is the active ingredient.

I've got this at the moment too. Had dental appointment for check up last week and because I hadn't changed my toothbrush for ages bought a new one in Boots three days before appointment. Village Boots with very little choice so I went for the hard bristles and it was very big compared to my previous toothbrush. I think this caused it, Back to smaller new toothbrush now but it was agony when I had some beetroot the other night!

My daughter has a mouth full of ulcers since she got Covid and I have heard of others like this. Perhaps her immunity is down since the infection a few weeks ago ?

So sorry to read this, a sore mouth is miserable. I have been getting ulcers and cold sores this winter and use Bonjela, and cold sore cream.

You can gargle with crushed aspirin which contains painkiller - don't swallow it.

My doctor told me to gargle with dispersible aspirin when I had a sore throat.

I am intolerant of the red stripe in toothpaste . I think it’s made with cinnamon oil in it. I had a sore mouth & throat way back along & when I just happened to change my toothpaste to a plain type, he presto my symptoms cleared up.

Will check my toothpaste. Thank you .

I went through a phase of getting load blisters in my mouth. I wondered if it was due to using toothpaste with sodium laurel sulphate in it. Maybe rinsing with corsodyl would prevent any risk of infection.

I get blood blisters in my mouth . Usually on the side of cheek or on my tongue. I know if I eat something crunchy it can cause them. Had a scare a couple of weeks ago I had eaten 2 rice cakes with yogurt coating should have known better but they are lovely. Had a blood blister form the back of my throat by my air way. It got bigger and bigger . I am on blood thinners. I researched them when I had the first had one. And it warned against popping them as it can lead to infection. But it also said that ones at the back of the throat could block your airway. So decided to gently press it to pop it . I was frighten I wouldn't be able to breath. Sounds over dramatic but I live on my own and it's what I thought at the time . Luckily I didn't get an infection. Got one at the moment why I don't know but it's on my cheek so I will just let it go by itself . They don't hurt and usual go over night.

I know isn't the OP s problem but just wondered if anyone else has them.

Hand, foot and mouth is doing the rounds where we live, that causes sores on the roof of the mouth.

Oh my god, what on earth is that, never heard of it. shock

Is this Hand, Foot and Mouth? Are you feeling a bit under the weather as well?

TillyTrotter Tue 08-Feb-22 14:14:48

I don’t know what it is Debbidoo but as dogsmother says Bonjela will sooth it for hours at a time (until you eat or drink again).
I buy the children’s banana flavour one for me - it is gentler and I think tastes nicer than the mint adult one.

Visgir1 Tue 08-Feb-22 14:11:51

If you can stand it... Marmite works on mouth Ulcers. Strange but true.

dogsmother Tue 08-Feb-22 13:49:27

Oh my goodness yes!
I had a nasty mouth ulcer on the roof of my mouth inJanuary.
No idea why, I used bonjela which recommended Seven days or go to doctor. Initially I didn’t believe it would be there so long but I did take six days to clear.

MayBee70 Tue 08-Feb-22 13:45:21

Worth taking some zinc. I’ve got some Boots mouth ulcer gel that I use sometimes.Agree about salt water gargles. And seeing a entrust if it doesn’t resolve itself. I used to buy corlan tablets but they’re prescription only now.

MissAdventure Tue 08-Feb-22 13:41:39

Lack of vitamins can cause mouth ulcers.
Perhaps visit your doctor, because it needs checking out.

Something you ate or drank has probably irritated the roof of your mouth. My universal remedy for anything ‘mouthy’ is a warm saline gargle. Try that, while you’re waiting for your dental appointment. It can’t harm, can it. Salt is a good antibacterial agent - so I’ve heard

well said......That is my first remedy for anything in the mouth also...salt water mouthwash (saline) .
