This lady's problem with the pain in a nerve in her neck may be affecting her posture and this may be affecting the progress of food through her upper digestive tract.

Probably her best recourse would be to visit an osteapath.

I have found my digestion has improved since DH commented that I was walking all hunched up like a little old lady. He was right,

Since then I have been making a conscious effort to walk, and sit with my back comfortable straight, not stiff like a ramrod. After couple of months, it is becoming automatic - and it has worked wonders on my digestion.

Thanks for the replies, there could be something in that.

I've had shingles for months, though it's itchy now rather than painful.
I've noticed that pattern too.
MaybeMaw could be right.

Could it be connected with the fact that she is more upright- sitting, standing or walking as the day goes on?

An elderly relative of mine has a long-standing problem with a nerve in her neck which she is convinced is affecting her digestive system and ability to eat/swallow. The weird thing is that she is adamant that the problem gradually gets worse towards midday, and then gradually improves the further it gets from midday.

A quick look at google suggests there have been studies into circadian rhythms and the nervous system, so perhaps this is not so far-fetched. I just wondered whether any of you lovely ladies have experienced anything similar?
