Hip replacement pre/post operation pls

I do have a sock aid which I found awkward in the early days, might give it another go.

I have just taken my dressing off, it’s not weeping anymore so having no other advice from medics made an executive decision. Scar quite long and bumpy and still harbour that golf ball feeling, but Walking very well indoors without a stick other than stairs, and outside with one just to be safe, or two if on uneven ground. I am rather pleased as its only been 3 weeks today since the operation.

silverlining I loved my sock device so much I went on using it for ages after I needed to. It worked so well. Its really worth it. It has a silky lining and a fuzzy exterior that you fit the sock over and tapes to draw it up. It worked for surgical stockings too.

Three weeks fir me now, still can’t get a sock on or off bit walking well. Need to try a longer walk though.

Hope it's not Covid or if it is that this is as bad as it gets.
I went to a chiropodist twice after my hip op. It was lovely. The young man did a great professional job. I've not needed to go back again as I can manage myself now. So go. Don't feel bad about it. It's a necessity just now.

Oh goodness didn’t even think of Covid ! I’ve never caught it despite being in close contact several times . I will do a lateral flow ( sure I still have some ) today . Slept better last night but still wheezy and a sore throat . I do have asthma but very well controlled usually.
I managed to get an appointment for Friday for the chiropodist thank goodness, I always used to say if the time comes when I can’t cut my own toenails that’s it - I have had to revise that !

Also the whole place doesn't need a full spring clean every week. You could have a special focus on 'bottoming' one room at a time after doing the usual basics. Homes don't need to be hospital clean all the time.

silverlining I think you can only expect the basics if that, is done in 2 hours and there certainly is no time to move any furniture.
I have a downstairs loo, living room, hall and large kitchen downstairs, with 3 bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. I have carpets nowhere and very few rugs because for me they are a trip hazard.

3 hours is fine for me.

silverlining48 I live in a flat. There's no stairs, is carpeted throughout (except kitchen and bathrooms) so is maybe easier. Also, she's been coming for years so keeps the state of the place up and knows it well.

Well done with the socks, I am still struggling with them even though I have a useful long shoe horn. If dh is around he helps otherwise I get cold feet,

Not a great day today . I was coughing all night last night and have had a sore throat all day . My immune system is probably shot to pieces with all those antibiotics even though I took probiotics too . So felt pretty exhausted all day . Still managed a walk and pottered about most of the day, using one crutch inside . However I did conquer the sock problem with a nifty gadget and a long shoe horn . It took about 10 mins but I did it!
So I have come to bed early hoping for a better night . Tomorrow is another day ….

Aveline we seem to have similar sized houses, does your cleaner do the whole house in 2 hours? Every week?

I was here but wasn’t watching. If I have only 2 beds and two sitting rooms done, an extra hour would only give 15 minutes per room.,not enough surely.

Think I need to ask her.

My nice lady comes for two hours a week. Kitchen and bathrooms first then general dust and hoover of three bedrooms, sitting room and dining room. I also hoover between her visits due to accumulation of cat fur!
She's very efficient and thorough. She's Polish and is a pleasure to have in the house. Such a nice lady. She worried more than me about my hip replacement and often texted to see how I was doing.

We are 3 bed, 2 reception and what was cleaned in 2 hrs was bathroom, small shower room, kitchen, hall, stairs and landing.

I had hoped she might manage at least one of the other rooms but she ran over time.

It was a first visit so should be easier next time but realise she won’t manage the other rooms in the house and might have to extend hours, by an hour or two.
She seems very nice and hope to keep her.

silverlining if it helps the average time for cleaning a 3 bedroom house is 3 hours.

Ah I think I get your drift re: the meds silverlining! ?

Excellent news all round, once your cleaner gets on top of everything, it should all take less time I guess.

Hello GrannyLaine, am happy to report that things today are much much better thank goodness. Feeling half a stone lighter....its an enormous relief. Will be very careful about certain meds in future.

The cleaner was very pleasant and have just been up to admire my sparkling taps.
I wasnt sure how much coukd be done in 2 hours and she went over her time and still didnt get to living/ bedrooms so either have to do those myself, or morecprobsbly dh, or see if i can increase her hours. Might be the latter.
As a first experience it went well. So am a happy bunny.

I want to say I wasn’t criticising you Naughtyneine rather, in my opinion, the over ambitious advice from your surgeon. You were only passing on what he said, and who knows, maybe he’s right in some cases but I decided not to push myself too much.
Some days were better than others in the early weeks, so when I felt up to it I did a bit more walking, but listening to my body I was soon aware when enough was enough!
Everyone gets there in the end.

I enjoyed my short walk in the woods today with my family , a pair of cycling gloves from a friend made using the crutches a lot easier . My lovely twin GC tearing on ahead and DS and DiL walking either side of me slowly bless ‘em. Bluebells nearly finished but still an intoxicating smell . I managed to have a wee sleep this afternoon so hopefully I will stay awake to watch a bit of TV this eve .

No shame in being in PJ's at all... lovely and comfy and easy to move around in too, I didn't get up until 11.30 and I'm back resting on the sofa now as I'm not feeling too great today either. Still not able to put my feet together and straighten my operated leg completely... I try and do it and hold it for 5 and repeat it x 3 but it is painful as is the pain under my bottom right rib that I'm supposing is from where my pelvis/body has twisted to accommodate my previous way of walking . You do just what feels good and don't be going tidying up before the cleaner comes tomorrow. It will be nice for you to have everywhere freshened up a bit. I did feel very admonished once I'd reread the comments but that's the essence of these posts I suppose..freedom to comment/criticise. Hope both of us feel better soon. As Scarlet O Hara says in Gone with the wind..... Tomorrow is another day. X

I am still in my pjs, shamed to admit but wasn’t well this morning, but at least now am downstairs. Feel guilty I have done so little but tomorrow is another day.

IN fact my new cleaning lady is coming tomorrow, early, an entirely new experience fir me.

My partner has just said it sounds as if I've been roundly rapped over my knuckles for posting my comings and goings of the last few days. I hadn't realised I had ..( blonde at times) but having reread it I think he's right. GrannyLaine ..I think you misunderstood...I was repeating what my consultant said .. Not a personal comment. Everyone is different... And heals and progresses at different speeds... No right or wrong way. The aim is to be healed and pain free and whichever way that is achieved is a success. We are all going in the right direction thankfully. I won't ever be doing fell running...etc as it doesn't appeal to me but like the rest of us I'm looking forward to getting back to being me again.
