How is everyone this morning? It's 10am and already 24 degrees. I don't feel like going out today at all - I hate the heat_ but Son1 appears to have had a falling-out with his girlfriend, so he and his girls aren't meeting her today (it's her birthday and we've all got presents for her) after all. What to do? Here we go again........................

HowVeryDareYou Sun 14-Aug-22 01:03:59

I hate people like that. So inconsiderate towards anyone else. They shouldn't have a dog at all if they can't be bothered with it.

The boy has just come in (the door has been open all day). He's asleep on the rug now, so I'm off to bed again. Night for now. Hope you manage to get some sleep x

VioletSky Sun 14-Aug-22 01:01:03

No, it's not right at all, my neighbours have their own dog and it was setting him off too so they have reported it as they didn't get an answer knocking

HowVeryDareYou Sun 14-Aug-22 00:54:31

Good, it really isn't on. It's bad for you and the neighbours but also very bad for the poor dog. I wouldn't ever hesitate to intervene in a case of animal neglect/abuse.

VioletSky Sun 14-Aug-22 00:42:10

Don't worry, the neighbours are on it!

HowVeryDareYou Sun 14-Aug-22 00:39:06

VioletSky I named him Cooper, after the late Sir Henry - when I first took him in (he was feral), I got him to the vet's and the radio was on, announcing that Henry Cooper had died. I added the Mr as he's so special grin. It's too hot for housework! Yes, get blood tests. The dog barked for 6 hours? Poor you, but poor dog too. I'd be round to their house to complain.

VioletSky Sat 13-Aug-22 23:06:39

I didn't know SAD can happen in summer either

Doodle that is a grrat idea, I might take myself to the nearest frozen section.

HVDY Mr Cooper is a brilliant name and makes me smile every time I read it.

I am very worried about my thyroid. I'm never great in the heat but I feel hyperthyroid and the only way to know is blood tests so I will get them done ASAP.

I've just done some housework as I have been dizzy every time I stood up until it cooled off a bit. I'd rather be asleep but there is a new dog nearby that has barked constantly for 6 hours now.

HowVeryDareYou Sat 13-Aug-22 21:15:10

Doodle Mr Cooper has been in, "asking" for something - he recently realised he likes milk - he shouldn't have it as it makes him have the trots (not pleasant but he always uses his tray) so I got him some Whiskas cat milk. He's ignored it. Spoilt devil. . Son1 and girls got home at 7.30 - hot, tired and sweaty. They've had showers, got clean pyjamas on and had food. Hope you have a good day with your son and family tomorrow.

Hope everyone on BD has been ok today x

Doodle Sat 13-Aug-22 20:06:32

Scaredycat I’m sorry about your AF. This heat is too much to bear even without that. DH and I went to Sainsburys today just to have some cool air. Can’t cope with this heat. I feel so sorry for those in countries where it’s even hotter and they have not fans or respite. We had very little sleep last nigh. I’m just hoping we have some cooler weather soon.
dS1 and family were due to come here tomorrow but I have told the we will go to them. At least they have a garden with some shade unlike here. We are in full sun all day.
HVDY I love your description of the interaction between your DGD and Mr Cooper. ? he must be very comfortable in the heat.
No breeze here I’m afraid. Your DS1 sounds like a really good Dad. He spends a lot of time with his girls which is good.
Annie that’s interesting, I sometimes find my stress levels worse in the summer. I wonder if I have summer SAD.
Your carer is indeed an angel. Well certainly a good kind person that’s for sure.
Swwetpeasue I’m wondering how you are. We haven’t heard from you for a few days I hope that doesn’t mean you’re in a bad way.
Thinking of all the BDG. Take care and keep safe.

HowVeryDareYou Sat 13-Aug-22 12:52:40

Anniebach I didn't know that about some antidepressants. Your carer sounds wonderful, what a lovely lady. I hope you're managing to keep a bit cooler today (and your little dogs too).

It's hot here but not as humid as yesterday, and there is a breeze. Son1 and the girls have gone out for the day, so DH and I are having a quiet time.

SweetPeaSue, Doodle, ScaredyCat, Nonnie, Nanny, VioletSky, EllieAnne and anyone I've missed - how are you all? x

Anniebach Sat 13-Aug-22 12:46:36

Hi all x

Interesting note - some anti depressants can be affected by hot weather and make those who take them sensitive to heat.

Doodle when i was diagnosed with S.A.D, the physiatrist said a smaller number can be affected by Summer, we think only
winter causes S.A.D. not so x

Scaredycat my carer is an earth angel, she has been coming back in the evenings to shut the back door, she lives 7 miles
from me. Wretched AF, the heat certainly isn’t helping, don’t
go walking in this heat x

How is everyone?

HowVeryDareYou Fri 12-Aug-22 22:35:58

SweetPeaSue - that was meant for Doodle.

SweetPeaSue Hope your pain has subsided x

HowVeryDareYou Fri 12-Aug-22 22:20:45

SweetPeaSue Mr Cooper has been asleep on the patio (under the table all day. He loves it. He's been in only for his food, and a bit of a chat with GD2, whom he loves (she's 7 1/2). She carries him around and he doesn't mind at all. Magnums are lovely. I had strawberries and cream.

ScaredyCat Sorry you've had the AF again.

VioletSky Sorry you haven't felt well. The heat won't help.

I hope everyone has a decent sleep, and that it's cooler tonight x

Scaredycat Fri 12-Aug-22 20:56:48

Annie- so pleased your carer has been so helpful at the moment- hope the weekend carer is able to start soon.
I think you are right about the heat and hope next week that we will all feel a bit less stressed. This weekend is going to be uncomfortable by the sound of it.
Yes the reservoirs are so depleted here too and you can’t imagine we will ever get enough rain to refill them.
HVDY- hope you,ve had a nice day with your son and GDs-it has certainly been extremely hot here. I can’t remember the heat ever getting to me as it has this week.
Mr Cooper will miss his naps in the sun when it’s Winter.
VioletSky- I,m sorry you haven’t felt well - your body must need a rest to have slept so long. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.
Doodle- wilting is a great word to describe what it feels like at the moment. Today it has made me feel more than exhausted- 24 hours of AF don’t help either!!
A magnum sounds a great idea - a treat for tomorrow I think.
Love to all

Doodle Fri 12-Aug-22 20:24:32

HVDY can’t believe Mr Cooper likes this heat. With all that fur I thought he’d be too hot. Hope the heart monitor check goes ok. I’ve had one of those too.
Have a nice evening with your family. I am indulging in a Magnum ?
Annie your carer sounds really good. I’m pleased she’s coming twice a day. You need the help. I hope the weekend person works out ok.
It’s funny but sometimes I find I am more anxious in the summer than the winter even though the weather is better and the sun shining. Maybe the heat has something to do with it.
I’m just wilting most of the day,
Violetsky I’m sorry to hear you’re not well. Sleeping that much is certainly an indicator. How are you feeling now, hope you are feeling better? Have you any plans for the weekend.
Sweetpeasue Scaredycat how are you both doing. It’s almost too hot to think at the moment.

VioletSky Fri 12-Aug-22 11:56:47

Good morning, hope all are well in the heat

I haven't been well at all and spent most of yesterday asleep and then slept through until 11am today.

HowVeryDareYou Fri 12-Aug-22 11:14:19

Aniebach I'm glad your carer is so good. Great news about getting someone at the weekends.

It's too hot already (27 here). I've had the heart monitor fitted. Going out with husband, Son1 and GDs soon.

Hope everyone manages to stay out of the heat today x

Anniebach Fri 12-Aug-22 10:53:15

Hi all x

nanny please accept this with love - your husband has a terminal illness, much heartache for you both. Spend the
remaining time in the present, treasure each day together x

Scaredycat thank you, this heatwave is very difficult being stuck 24 hours a day on the sofa, my carer is heaven sent, has been been coming twice a day and weekends , think I have found someone who will come for an hour either a Saturday or
Sunday.

Doodle very hot in Mid Wales, we have many reservoirs here, they are very, very low.

The heat is causing anxiety levels to rise , so anyone feeing high anxiety it will lessen next week.

How is everyone?

HowVeryDareYou Thu 11-Aug-22 19:07:49

Doodle Mr Cooper is loving this weather - he sprawls outside on the patio all day. I've only seen him briefly twice today (the door is open all day), when he came in for a drink and then to flake out on the kitchen (tiled) floor.

It's really too warm for me today. I've got a hospital appointment tomorrow, to have a heart monitor fitted for 6 days - DH has booked the day off work - I've certainly had my money's worth (hundreds of thousands of ££) in the past year and a bit. Hope everyone on BD has at least had an ice cream today x

Doodle Thu 11-Aug-22 19:01:52

HVDY another early start for you with Mr Cooper. Do you think the heat is getting to him. I might have considered sitting on the patio waiting for him if it was cooler there.
Dh is doing well thank you. Feeling much better. You son certainly is good taking his DDs out and about. Hope he gets another test soon.
Scaredycat we had to go shopping today for some birthday presents. It was too much really. Stores were cool but when you come outside the heat was unbearable. Then I can home and had to water the plants which was exhausting.
I was thinking today that when winter comes and it’s cold again we will all be complaining. Shame we can’t store this heat for use in winter.
Annie how are you. Tell me is it really warm in Wales?
How is your ankle doing now.
Sweetpeasue I hope your antibiotics have helped stop the urine infection. That isn’t nice at all. How have you been today?

HowVeryDareYou Thu 11-Aug-22 16:00:20

ScaredyCat Mr Cooper sleeps in until about 7 in the cold weather smile. We're all moaning about the weather, but it's a British thing we do grin.

Anniebach How are you, love?

Doodle How are things with you and your husband?

SweetPeaSue How are you feeling today? Are the antibiotics helping at all?

VioletSky and EllieAnne How are you both?

I've had the day to myself grin. Son1 has taken his girls out, on 2 buses, to Trent Bridge - there's a nice park there. Sadly, the very popular lido that was there for years (I went there as a child) has shut for good. Such a pity, as it was great for kids whose parents perhaps aren't able to take them to swimming baths or to the seaside. I wish he'd passed his test. The waiting list is apparently over a year! Unless he can get a cancellation - driving tests are not booked by the instructors any more, learner drivers have to book them themselves via a website. I hope everyone is drinking lots - I've had about 3 pints of water so far

Scaredycat Thu 11-Aug-22 15:46:27

Annie- hope you,re managing to keep a bit cool in this weather.
Any luck with a weekend carer?x

Scaredycat Thu 11-Aug-22 14:58:25

Doodle- like you this wether is wearing me out too. We walked yesterday morning before 11 but wish we hadn’t as it made me feel awful afterwards and I,m still exhausted today. Even DH who loves the sun is indoors this afternoon.
I will try hard not to be moany when the colder weather arrives.
HVDY- glad your eyes feel better. It’s good that you get on with your SiL and hve lots to talk about.
Mr Cooper is a bit of an early riser isn’t he- does he have a lay in When the cold weather comes? He sounds such a character. We used to have a little cat who woke us up early washing our hair!!
That swimming place sounded great fun bet yourGC enjoyed it. Another action packed day for you.
I,m not enjoying the weather either - love warm hate hot.
SweetPeaSue- what a shame the pain has prevented you from fully enjoying your sons visit. It must have been so good to see them though and your GD will have lovely memories of your time together.
You must be more than frustrated at the apparent lack of concern for your problems. Hope the antibiotics help your urinary problem.
EllieAnne- Hope you enjoyed your walk with your friend- an opportunity to have a good chat too.I think it would be a good idea to try for an appointment - that lightheaded feeling is very debilitating.
Now you have a few free days you could do some things that you like and don’t always get the chance to do- the hall can wait til the light headedness has cleared.
VioletSky- I think you too should have a word with your GP . If it happens often you could scald or burn yourself . It would set your mind at rest too hopefully.
Nanny- what a lovely moment to hear your little one call you Nanny for the first time- really special.
I,m so sorry to hear about your husband- such a hard thing for you both to bear. You have great strength of character .
Love to all

HowVeryDareYou Thu 11-Aug-22 08:02:07

Nanny Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you've got family and friends to lean on a bit. Is your husband on effective pain relief?

SweetPeaSue I hope the antibiotics give you some relief. Sometimes the problems with passing urine are exacerbated by the bladder being irritated. Have you tried cutting out certain foods/drinks to see if it makes any difference? All that, on top of your existing problems, must get you down.

Mr Cooper woke me at 3.50 today (swine) to go out That wasn't too bad, I'd had 5 hours sleep then. I didn't wait up for him, and when I got up at 6, he was asleep on a patio chair smile

Hope everyone on BD manages to keep cool today. x

Doodle Wed 10-Aug-22 23:26:43

Oh Nanny I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. That must be very hard to cope with. I do hope you have family close by to support you. I hope your DH isn’t in pain.
I hope you get to see your DGC often. The little ones always lift our spirits.
Sweetpeasue it does sound like a urine infection. I hope the antibiotics help soon and the pain is eased. Not the sort of weather for holding a hot water bottle close is it.
Try phoning the surgery again tomorrow if it isn’t any better.
Do hope you sleep tonight.
