We used to advise bio oil but there are the patches you are asking about. Doctors can prescribe them I think (maybe dermatologists) but I have no idea how well they work.

I was advised to use vaseline on my scar. It’s 10 weeks since my operation so its still red but not uncomfortable and seems to be progressing well.

Thanks for all your comments. I'm actually using bio oil - I think it's just a matter of being patient!

DD used Bio-Oil on a 9inch by 6in wound on her arm and found it very helpful.

I'm not sure it matters all that muchwhat you massage into it, the act of massaging itself helps a lot. I used a regular moisturiser and have a long thin white scar that didn't attach to any of the layers underneath and become lumpy

I also used Bio oil on the scar left by my Total Knee Replacement. I used to massage the oil into the scar line regularly at least twice a day, and now it is hardly visible.

I was told by my consultant to use Bio Oil ... I have a long scar from my forehead to my eye brow ... someone else has recommended this aswell

Tbh given time the body does heal itself. After breast surgery (lumpectomy) the surgeon offered to sort out the scar, but I turned him down as I’d had enough of all the medical intervention.

Now after a decade all I have is a very fine line that is barely visible. It was very raised, red and angry looking initially.

It depends how long you are willing to wait I guess.

I had something removed from my face and used Bio-oil on the scar, it worked well for me, the scar is barely visible.

They do not work with keloids

Has anyone tried these and, if so, do they work? They are quite expensive, and don't want to waste my money if they don't work. I have recently had a keratoacanthoma removed (a bit like a carninoma but not malignant) on my leg and now have quite a large and rather ugly scar. Any advice from gransnetters please?
