Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!

A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining thanks for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible! smile

As a follow up have lost the pounds gained on holiday. That’s the good news. The bad is for the first time I have tested positive for COVID. It’s like a bad flu which affects appetite. Feeling ruff! Has a lovely busy week booked and it’s all had to be cancelled ?

Back from holiday and have put on another 5 lbs. Have noticed my new hip starting to ache a bit if I walk too far so will have to shift at least a stone.
I agree that a few peanuts can stave off those ‘hungry’ moments and if you say I can eat a few without guilt Aveline then I’m happy.
Thanks ?

I read the research on them. They are VG and don't lead to increased weight. The research wasn't sure if that was because they were virtually pure fibre so pass through you or because they are only roughly crunched up. Just a small handful simply switches off my appetite. I like roasted unsalted ones.

silverlining48 Mon 03-Oct-22 12:25:36

I have a Fitbit too....

silverlining48 Mon 03-Oct-22 12:24:33

Peanuts?
I usually avoid them eben though I like them

Aveline Mon 03-Oct-22 11:23:19

Before my hip op I lost a lot of weight (in case the pain was due to that). I used Huel and combining this with my Fitbit to show calorie deficits each day I did very well. It was absolutely OK once I got used to it and it became routine. Apples and peanuts were fantastic appetite fillers.

Sorry. Can't say I have. Enforced Covid lockdown reduced my physical activity and a bit of weight gain but now I'm out and about again and exercising more (as it just doesn't hurt smile) I'm back to my substantial normal weight I think.

travelsafar Mon 03-Oct-22 08:46:23

A random question has anyone noticed they are gaining
weight since hip operation???

silverlining48 Mon 03-Oct-22 05:28:30

Zilch, ? nada.

silverlining48 Mon 03-Oct-22 05:26:53

Well done Charleygirl.
Let’s see where this gets us.,.not holding breath.

Charleygirl5 Sun 02-Oct-22 23:43:10

We had even crept off Last Day so I decided to bump us up in case anybody needs advice.

I am off to bed, the heating is on and the house is cosy.

Aveline Sat 01-Oct-22 21:30:06

I'm just off to bend. Can't remember how I do it but it's OK!

Mizuna Sat 01-Oct-22 21:12:12

Charleygirl5, I'd had the other hip replaced not long before the second and was recommended to put the leg out behind me initially. This advice to keep my knees apart was meant as permanent advice, maybe because I've had both hips replaced. I do it automatically now, can't imagine bending any other way.

Charleygirl5 Sat 01-Oct-22 17:18:34

My apologies, that should state bend instead of bed.

silverlining48 Sat 01-Oct-22 16:11:09

I agree Charleygirl but not keen on the alternative either. smile

Charleygirl5 Sat 01-Oct-22 15:38:24

silverlining re swimming- if I ever got into a pool I could not do breaststroke which is all I ever could do before, because of my knees. The metal annoyingly does not bed!

As for the sea, because of my ankle, I use a walking stick so swimming is out and I would not feel comfortable or safe paddling. As of today, I am cancelling this old age lark.

Charleygirl5 Sat 01-Oct-22 15:34:04

Mizuna I am surprised you were not told to put your operated leg backwards and straight when you were picking something up. Each surgeon has his own thoughts.

Mizuna Sat 01-Oct-22 15:29:57

iPadGrandma, it's a year since my hip replacement and I can bend as much as I like. My surgeon said at the six-month check up to keep my knees apart as I bend and then my hip can't dislocate. It looks somewhat inelegant but who cares! ?

Charleygirl5 Sat 01-Oct-22 15:19:21

I am surprised that so much is out of bounds for life. I would have thought after a year I certainly would be happy to do everything except bend beyond 90 degrees. I may be going OTT because hips have changed drastically for the better since the 1960's but I personally would err on the side of caution- thankfully each one of us is different.

Visgir1 Sat 01-Oct-22 15:19:08

IpadGrandma after everything you have been through this was the last thing you wanted to hear.

So sorry you have to deal with this now. I'm sure once you get those muscles around your joints strong and flexible you will be able to do much more.

If the XRay's are normal, and you are on a personal "rehab" program, why are they saying this?
I doubt your going out to run a Marathon in the next few months? Or are you ?? Just keep doing what your comfortable with, getting your fitness back.
We all are aware of the slim chance of dislocation, but we aren't daft? We are all careful knowing we have this artificial joint.

I am sure you will overcome this, you are pain free and boy that helps.
You will soon be back sorting out those cupboards.

Best wishes and Go Hipsters ?

Unsurprisingly It’s in at the very end. It’s forever a mystery

silverlining48 Sat 01-Oct-22 15:10:10

Just to ( see if this gets onto active) say that I have been in and out of the sea twice today without incident (but with a fair bit of fear).
Feeling rather pleased with myself ? .
Only a couple more days to practice this skill before returning to reality.
Brrrrrr

Aveline Sat 01-Oct-22 11:54:31

Charleygirl I know about the fear of dislocation - an awful thought. I was interested to know why she was told she'd never be able to bend more than 90 degrees etc.

silverlining48 Sat 01-Oct-22 11:46:46

Like Susie I am 5.5 months post op and still struggling with socks and so on.
I don’t understand why you habe been told ‘forever’ unless they have told you why.
Chin up you are on your way to recovery and I still do the courtsey bend with bad leg sticking out. Habit I suppose. smile
