Oh and I have just checked and we are not on the active list at all, despite only just writing this. If it’s not active then it’s just us in the know that can track it, new posters won’t even see it,
This happens time and time again, I have no explanation.

Oh and the nice physio said that I can self refer fir hydrotherapy at the local hospital so I rang them and a firm will be in the post. Asked about wait and was told should be assessed in a couple of weeks! Might be worth looking into at your own hospitals. Nice warm water.
Physio also recommends aquacise classes so am investigating.( probably not so warm water).

Hi GrannyLaine glad all is going well. Aren’t we lucky.

Saw my nice physio this morning, apparently I am doing well and I should not Worry that the hip will displace ( unless I fall) so I have another rubber band for stretches etc which was hard work. Will see her again in a month despite being signed off last week by the surgeon.
I hope you have had some news re discharge iPadGrandma. Would be lovely to be home fir the weekend.

IpadGrandma... So sorry you got such a bad ride. I had mine done same day but all went well.
I had a bad time with my other Hip, 10 days in Hospital, that was 7 years ago, so rather nervous when I went in last week, out by day 3.
Keep smiling and like all the Hipsters on here, you will get there. Some of us have to take a longer road but get there in the end.

I'm glad they are keeping such a close eye on you though it must feel like an eternity to you. Agree with comments above about crutches: I felt very secure with mine and it didn't hold me up in the slightest.

Good luck iPadGranma. That's a long time to be in hospital these days. I hope you get home today but if not there must be a good reason for it and better safe than sorry. Take easy. No rush. Don't be bullied by physios.

Good morning IPadGrandma good to hear from you, As another with tiny veins I do sympathise with you.
It’s been a long haul but clearly necessary so hope you get home today (Friday is a day hospital likes to discharge) .
You will need to build up as you habe been in bed so long so begin with two crutches or sticks and you will quickly progress to one,
I am seeing my physio today probably for the last time as it’s been 4 months since my operation and the new hip is doing well, best of all it doesn’t hurt anymore.

Good morning and thank you for all the good wishes. Have moved wards overnight to help with staffing levels and internet connection ok here right now. Thanks to DH for acting as my PA when he messaged you the other day.
It’s now about ten days ( op on 10th August ) in hospital as on strong iv antibiotics, adjusted daily according to blood test results. Narrow veins so tests and cannulas have left me very bruised.
Hip feeling ok due to painkillers but maybe after ten days things are settling down!
Physios wanted me to try to walk in one crutch when I had not walked that much on two. That upset me a bit but I will use two if I am more confident. I think the physios are just a bit young and keen! They are very kind.
(Rushed in with Septic Arthtitis in April 2021, just to explain my added complications, for those who don’t know!).
Time for another doze before obs. done.
Depending on results of cultures from microbiology, I might be going home today. I am desperate to be home with DH now.

So pleased to hear of people’s recovery. It’s very encouraging. I’ve got a couple of cooling pads that I have in the freezer and I find that they do give me some relief when I first use them. I manage to heat them up after about half an hour.
Today, I’ve managed to put away the Tesco delivery, sort out some watercolour paints, tidy two tables of books and papers and put one lot of washing on and I am falling asleep. Oh I managed to discolour a towel and two white shirts when a rogue blue sock got into the machine. Grr. I’m hoping I can get them white again with some whitener tomorrow.

Charleygirl they are indeed cuddly and do enjoy a grooming up to a point but not beyond that. We had to take one poor boy to the vet to have large mats shaved off. The problem only started as they began to moult their huge winter coats.

Avelinemay I suggest distraction therapy which I know you will enjoy as will your two boys. Relaxing in your chair with them resting on your body and being cuddled by you. If you did not live so far away I would offer to take temporary care of them giving them loads of cuddles and combing their coats if they enjoy it. Three happy souls.

My previous knees and hip had flare ups then settled down. Maybe it's all this Aquafit disturbing soft tissues? Will wait and see. I'll just bury my head in this convenient sand and keep all my fingers crossed. That'll do the trick!

I guess you are wondering whether to get the ball rolling for that hip or whether you feel you would rather wait to see what happens.
It’s difficult at the moment with the timings as we’ve all heard horror stories of folk having to wait two years or more, but a couple of acquaintances, like me, only had to wait a couple of months from when they saw the surgeon.

Yes. So good to hear all the good news from everyone.
In less good news my other hip is playing up a bit. I'm trying to ignore it to make the burning feeling go away. That'll work won't it??!

I’m pleased to hear you are making progress. I’m sure it’s frustrating being in hospital but you have a ‘release’ date which is great. Best wishes to you, and I’m sure you will gradually get stronger and stronger once you are back home and in your own bed!

It’s great that this thread is continuing. I always enjoy reading about others’ progress even though my new hip has been in situ for eight months now. I am still relieved and grateful to be out of pain and able to get on with my life.

Sorry you are still in hospital but probably best if they need to keep an eye on you and hope it’s only a day or so more til you get back home.

Greetings from iPadGrandma’s PA, otherwise known as her DH. Signal can be a bit flaky on her ward, so I am updating on her behalf.

She is making good progress, and if all goes well will be discharged on Friday, a full nine days after the op. This is because they are monitoring her closely for any signs of infection, given that the whole business started with septic arthritis in April last year. So far so good, though BP continues on the low side, and her veins seem to have a resistance to cannulas!

She follows this thread avidly, so heaven help me if I have misrepresented anything!

Hello all , I’m in Normandy with DD and family the internet very hit and miss . Good to see so many of you are recovering well .I certainly feel now that my new hip is fully part of me now and I can do almost anything ! I managed a walk down a shingle beach to the sea for a swim with my stick for added safety and did need DGD’s hand to get back up however.
Exhausting though being with very lively DGC and a DD and SiL anxious about a new business venture they are starting in September ?.

Ooo. We are down with the old 1.5 hours ago posts. Trying not to feel picked upon but why does this always happen?

Visgirl great that you are doing well. Take it easy still and sleep if you need to.
My favourite item was the long handled shoe horn and the toilet frame. Grabber good too, it returned to its firmer use as a litter picker.

1 week now since my Op. Discharged Saturday lunchtime.
Since then :-
I have never slept so much, bed has been fine managed to get comfortable with a shaped pillow Even the dreaded Ted Stockings haven't driven me bonkers yet.

No significant pain, just sore. I planning on reducing painkillers over the next few days. See how that goes.

Managed the shower. OK sussed keeping the dressing dry, by using small bubble wrap sucured with Micropore to make it waterproof over the dressing.
Bought a shower stool from Amazon and a long handled sponge thingy so I don't bend too much.

My grabber is a new best friend.

Hope the rest of you new Hipster are doing well too.
