Don't forget to keep up the fluids! Constipation is no joke! I managed with strong coffee and oranges. Maybe the hospital gave you something to take?

Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!
A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining
for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible!
Don't forget to keep up the fluids! Constipation is no joke! I managed with strong coffee and oranges. Maybe the hospital gave you something to take?
Am home my sister bought me and settled me back indoors. Yes i will take pain relief as prescribed. Feel wonderful in myself and so glad i had it done, that horrible bone on bone pain gone for ever. Now just have to be patient for operation pain to go. I feel like i've been kicked by a donkey!!
Swelling has started in upper leg so will put ice pack on that to sooth. Off for a nap now in the comfort of my armchair and foot stall.
If you take co Codamol
Be careful as constipation can be a problem, speaking from
one who knows!
Please when you are at home, take painkillers regularly so that you do not end up almost screaming with pain because you left it too late, "trying to manage". There is no point, you are only on them for a short period of time.
Rest, sleep and watch daytime TV. Enjoy.
There we are then ..we all knew you could do it and we spurring you on over the last few days. It's a bit scary leaving the security of a hospital but it really doesn't take long to adapt to your own surroundings and what you can and can't do just yet. Hospital beds have adjustable backs which most domestic beds don't so I did find I needed to build a bank of pillows for a while so I could get comfortable. Get lots of rest ....it's very very early days and keep us posted on how you are getting on. X
Travelsafar Hope you are feeling more comfortable now and manage to get some sleep or rest. All the best if you are going home today.
Hope you got some sleep travels and not in too much pain.
I found the first few days difficult but it wasn’t long before I started to feel better.
Had anti sickness injection last evening which seems to have worked. Pain kicking in now and wide awake wondering whether to ask for more pain relief. Had last lot at 10pm so I might try and see if I'm lucky. Area round wound feels hard due to swelling at top of leg. Once home I will use ice packs which I put in freezer prior to coming into hospital. N
I stayed in an extra night too due to nausea after the drugs. Pain really wasn't an issue for me but the sickness!! Was glad of another night to just lie back and recover before going home.
Going home tomorrow as suffering from nausea from anesthesia and strong pain relief. Have stopped them and having paracetamol and ibrufen along with anti sickness meds. Physio has discharged me as I did stairs and exercises and walking OK with sticks. She took zimmer away!!! Looking forward to being looked after once more. ACS have organised care to start Thursday morning. My son visiting tonight, and my sister will pick me up if discharged in morning...she has appointments in the afternoon.... my dear friend will collect me in afternoon if necessary. So lm gonna relax now and have a snooze. [ smile]
Good to hear all is well Travels yes do remind them you are on your own .
You will be very tired but free from pain . I have my final physio appointment tomorrow, I must find a home for the crutches and the other paraphernalia till the next time !
Travels you will notice the difference immediately and it would appear you will be home soon.
as others have said, mention your home arrangements. Onwards and upwards, you will enjoy the remainder of the summer but please rest. Dust and weeds will still be there when you are long gone. Enjoy the pain-free days in the near future!
Glad to hear you're safely on the other side. The only way is up! Have a good day today. Sleep when you can. Maximise your energy.
Good news travels. Glad to hear you are on day 1 of recovery.
Make sure they know you are on your own before they discharge you.
Wonderful to hear from you Travels!
It sounds as if you are doing remarkably well - well done you.
Have they been giving you morphine? I think I was injected with it at some point (?) and then I had a few shots of the liquid stuff.
I had strange blow up ‘shoes’ on my feet. No stockings. No Herperin either. Odd how different things are for all of us.
Wishing you a good day with the physio etc x
Morning all, had a good night, no pain so far and used bed pan x 2 times. Will get up at some point today. Zimmer and 2 sticks by my bed ready for this. Talk of me going home this evening if all well. Those pumping things on my legs to prevent blood clots plus heparin injections and stockings. Will let you know how things go as day progresses. Hoping this is not the ' lull ' painwise before the store.
Agree nfk. It’s all worth it - speaking of knees so far. One replaced last September. I’ve been kneeling (albeit on a cushion) to paint skirting boards, kneel on the grass in the garden quite comfortably. It just wouldn’t have been possible. Realised a month or so ago I was happily trotting up and down stairs without holding on. As you say leg is straight and feet point in the same direction. The other knee isn’t perfect but good enough for now, I’d have no hesitation about a new one if the day comes. Good luck everyone. It is definitely worth it.
So good to hear Nfk I remember you having them. Time flies!
Can I just drop in for a minute? I just want to say if anyone is having doubts about replacements - don't! Just get on and get it done! Do it!
I had my first knee replaced five years ago (private, as I couldn't get to see an NHS consultant) and the second four years ago (NHS Bogof - asked GP for a 'Named Consultant' as the private one did NHS too - but only in the private hospital!).
This morning, as I was crawling into the under stairs cupboard (on a cushion!) shoving a heap of under stairs stuff to the back my DH said that he'd never thought in a million years he'd see me do anything like that again. AND I can get up without the need for two firemen (unless they happen to be around). Both knees and feet face forward, my legs are straight and I don't use a stick or look at where my feet are heading all the time.
Life after replacements is good, even if it seems to take forever to get there!
Yay... This is the day that you start to be you again. I have said a prayer that all goes well and sending you a big but gentle hug. X
Sending positive thoughts to you for today. You will be up and walking by this evening and so your recovery starts. Good luck ?
Thinking of you too Travels ❤️
You can do this!
We’ll all be here, waiting to hear from you x
I have a bright yellow ‘LEG-UP’ bought from Amazon.
It’s a gadget for lifting leg onto bed or sofa, or into car.
Couldn’t manage without it now, so much so I have bought a second one so DH doesn’t have to carry it upstairs at night, along with all the other stuff he has to take upstairs, clean washing etc!
And this is so helpful., even before I have my new hip!
travelsafar I’m sending you my best wishes too this morning and hope all goes well for you.
travelsafar just wanted to add my good wishes for tomorrow. I hope all goes well for you and will be watching out for your recovery posts
