Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!

A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining thanks for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible! smile

Isn't it interesting that the kit we have all been given is so varied. I got a toilet seat raise and two sticks. The sticks are useful when i need to close top Windows. The hospital didnt want them back.
Luckily I had bought a few things myself beforehand.

Charleygirl5

sorry I use my grabber as a litter picker so I forgot its original name.
They are really good and it is a good idea to have two. In theory the hospital should provide you with one but I would not hold your breath.

Charleygirl, I was given one as part of my care package. Who knew it would be such an amazing piece of kit for removing and relocating the multitude of small rodents the cat brings in ? ?

Good Luck tomorrow travelsafar .
Before you know it you will be recuperating. ? ?

Aveline Sun 24-Jul-22 13:19:18

Grabber? Get two in case you drop the first one - speaking from experience!

silverlining48 Sun 24-Jul-22 13:13:05

Litter picker?

silverlining48 Sun 24-Jul-22 13:12:30

I still use my shoehorn so it was well worth 90p smile

Charleygirl5 Sun 24-Jul-22 12:28:05

The two items you will need are a long-handled shoe horn and a picker-upper. I am not sure what its Sunday name is.

Aveline Sun 24-Jul-22 12:00:36

Good luck. Just think, this time next week it'll be done and you'll be back home. ??

Charleygirl5 Sun 24-Jul-22 11:31:04

You appear to have prepared the garden, house and yourself very well. I did not realise it was tomorrow but it will soon be over and done with.

If you have any niggles mention them to the staff on admission especially if you have not found anybody to spend a couple of nights with you.

Try not to be too anxious- we are all here to help. Good luck.

My DH is, as we speak recovering from a second hip replacement performed yesterday. His first one back in Feb was a complete success, and the second one has also, as far as we can see, been the same. Out of bed yesterday afternoon with the physio, walking a few steps on a frame and sounding very cheerful. This morning, leg rather stiff but physio later will help. Tomorrow home,we hope. Hip ops are really worth having and make a big difference mobilitywise. I broke my hip five years ago and had a replacement. It was a bit of a slow recovery as broken hips often are, but now, I simply don't think about it any more. Good luck travels, you won't regret it.

thanks ladies.x

Gosh tomorrow travels. As Fanny says please don’t worry, really.
If there is something that isn’t covered in our marathon hipster threads let us know and we will try to help.
Honestly it sounds as if you are preparing yourself well , yes no bending, and let us know how it went when it’s done.
Don’t expect too much on the first few days, but it will quickly improve after that. Good luck. flowers

FannyCornforth Sun 24-Jul-22 10:20:19

Oh travels! I didn’t realise that it was tomorrow!
Of course we all will wish you oodles of luck! ?
I know that it’s easier said than done, but please, please don’t worry. It will all be fine.
Is there anything in particular that you are worried about, we might be able to allay your fears a little bit.
Sending you a hug x

Morning all. Well the big day looms tomorrow. I have been engaging in pre op preperations for the last couple of days, stopping blood thinners, packing suitcase, using medicated bodywash for showers and hairwashing and taking a covid test then isolating until tomorrow. I have to take another test in the morning and bring both tests with me in a plastic bag along with my texts from the reporting site on government site.
Garden has been receiving attention and today it will be the house. I need to rearrange position of armchair and place footstool in front of it. Certain saucepans will be left on top of hob, and regular used china left on worktop as no bending to get them out of the cupboard. I can feel myself shaking as i write this as sooo nervous. As soon as i am able i will report back here to let you know how things went. Wish me luck

Clarification. Aveline, no I cant sit on the floor and get up, nor can I get in and out of the bath. Sorry fir any misunderstanding.
Susie I dont get on with the bands either....
Oh Charleygirl, that must have been awful.

Off for my early evening g and t. Greetings to you all xx

SusieB50 Fri 22-Jul-22 16:40:07

Grannytomany please don’t wait it will only get worse ! I cannot believe how my quality of life has improved so rapidly 15 weeks , no pain , in fact my new hip is the best working part of me !! I live alone it was a challenge but really worth it and I won’t hesitate to have the other done if and when necessary. You never know how circumstances may change and things maybe very different in 6 months .
silverlining I just can’t get on with the resistance bands , I must be a real weakling although I went into central London today and managed all the underground steps well without my stick . My physio is not going to happy with me next week . Swimming is fine and walking good . Maybe I just don’t persevere ?‍♀️.
