However, actually I think that I was not totally correct.
I changed "you" to "one", which is fine.
However, I changed "you are" to become "one is".
"One is" is fine in many situations, for example,
One is able to buy a book about English history.
However, the sentence had "if", so I think that it should be "if one were" as MawtheMerrier wrote.
I think that this is because what is called the subjunctive mood of the verb "to be" needs to be used because the "if" means it is speculative of what might happen and not certain to happen.
The "one is" is the indicative mood.
I know that this is going off-topic but I feel that it is important that we get it correct.
So if anyone can bring this to completion, please do.
