Yes, I know using capitals means shouting!

Shouting is needed for this.

School has been cancelled here.
Some are finishing (have finished) a day or two earlier.

School Sports Day has been cancelled

Well up until yesterday it was. Head teacher had been in contact with said park to see if date could be changed but no go. But yes, I am hopeful that sense will prevail.

My DGS and DGD’s primary school is having a school trip on Tuesday to a small theme park. We have been before and there is no shade at all! I really can’t understand why it is still going ahead and I am very worried.

It might not be going ahead . Give the school a chance !

StarDreamer - I looked for an answer to your question about whether water or orange juice was best for hydration and tried to post link but it didn't work!
Anyway, in mostly doesn't matter - any liquid works. But a small amount of sugar may help absorption of the water. If it were me, I'd mix the water and orange juice together and drink it all! A pinch of salt added will also help. If you're sweating a lot you'll lose salt.

Thank you.

If you can say anything about the website please I will try to find it and try to add a link.

M0nica wrote I think I will start a thread on ways to keep cool in the heatwave, much more useful.

Excellent. Please do. That will be very helpful.

MawtheMerrier There are always people who read nothing, listen to nothing, see nothing and then complain that they were never informed of something. I had an aunt and uncle like that.

Blubelle look at the maps, it is Eastern England that is going to suffer most severely from the heat wave.

Stardreamer I think anyone who comes on GN is likely to be aware of the world around them and be aware that this heatwave is coming and not need to depend on a GN thread to inform them. Even TeacherAnne only spoke of being in a bubble for a day.

Panicking helps no one. Quiet calm consideration and discussion of different ways to keep cool and cope with the heat would be much more useful. I think I will start a thread on ways to keep cool in the heatwave, much more useful.

Has anyone seen any official guidance as to whether, having available 200 millilitres of natural orange juice with its natural sugars and 200 millilitres of water, in relation to the heatwave, which it is better to drink, or does the sugar make no difference either way in relation to the heatwave?

If so, please post a link.

Lucca Sat 16-Jul-22 07:55:06

I think we know now what may happen and what to do.
Be prepared and don’t panic ..it won’t help.

BlueBelle Sat 16-Jul-22 07:34:19

Anyone suffering from the heat come to the east coast it is very moderate here no signs of a heatwave just a nice 20* with a stiff breeze

LINK > Red extreme heat warning issued for first time across (part of) England for Monday and Tuesday

It’s been on every news bulletin this morning, in addition to being anticipated all of yesterday - news, weather forecasts etc etc
I find it hard to believe there is anybody out there to whom this comes as news!

I’ve not watched the television or listened to the radio all day so have not seen a news bulletin with this information. I seem to be in a bubble on my own!

Here in Greater Manchester it’s been cloudy and cool all day, I even saw a few spots of rain this morning! I’ve just checked the forecast on line and it looks as if it will get hot here so I’ll have a look at the link Star Dreamer sent to see what I can do to keep comfortable.

I've just said on another thread, - I wish we could buy pretty little parasols to protect ourselves in this heat. Umbrellas just don't look right.

I bought a lovely parasol when I was in China but it got lost in my last house move. I wish I still had it..
