Tea . . . or two?

This just pinged onto my phone. It’s a while since I’ve heard it but at least it’s something I already like to do.
Tea drinkers who consume more than two cups a day are likely to live longer than those who don't drink any, a new study has suggested
What next?

Well tea and red wine, huh ? Reckon I’ll live to be 110 . Coffee and chocolate, too but I prefer the milk variety so maybe I might lose a couple there.

I can’t stand tea.

A couple of years ago I saw a consultant neurologist who recommended 2 strong coffees, a glass of red wine and a couple of squares of dark chocolate a day along with a well balanced diet.
I do my best to follow his advice and as far as I know I have no medical conditions.
Only time ? will tell…

Well I'm doomed then. Both coffee and dark chocolate give me diarrhoea and red wine gives me a headache.

Well it looks like I might get my 'telegram from the Queen (or King)' ! I drink at least 6 mugs of builders strength tea a day with sugar and lactose free milk; 1 cup of coffee and a glass of red wine twice a week. I'm not really a water drinker apart from swallowing tablets with it, and I don't drink any fizzy drinks.

I haven't drunk tea since 1975 as pregnancy caused me to be sick when drinking it! Never went back to it as I never liked the taste after! Doesn't bode well for me then.

That was me, but with coffee! It's how I knew I was pregnant the third time.

However, if drinking 2 or more cups of tea equals longevity, then ? I'm gonna live forever ? ?

Must be Earl Grey to wake me up, then another with my breakfast.
Coffee mid morning, usually instant, but occasionally a Tassimo.
Lunch time, more tea. We drink Earl Grey, weak and black, always.
But, I do enjoy the odd Builders tea.

My Dh is always offering to reheat my drink in the microwave. Noooooo! I like it as it is!

My DH too, but he won’t do that now, with the cost of reheating!

SueDonim I’ve heard that before, but forgotten, so thanks for the reminder.
I’m putting that on a poster on the wall for DH, so he’ll appreciate that I’m looking after myself when he sees me drinking my lukewarm tea. ?

SueDonim Tue 30-Aug-22 12:51:09

Don’t drink it too hot! Last week there was a report out about how the temperature of drinks can have a bearing on oesophageal cancer. The hotter they are, the higher the risk.

I do like my morning coffees, though. Tea is for afternoon or early evening and must be Earl Grey. My DD’s drink builders tea.

PollyDolly Tue 30-Aug-22 12:45:11

Oooh! Can't beat a nice cup of tea! It is my early morning pick-me-up, coffee around 11am, tea or water at lunchtime, tea mid-afternoon and around 8pm - lots of water in between too.

I have to confess to being a tea snob and only buy one brand - even take some tea bags on holiday (UK and abroad).

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 30-Aug-22 12:43:07

Well, I'll live until I'm 150 then!

I love tea and t'other day I enjoyed 12 cups but that is out of the ordinary, mostly it's a mere eight or nine. Big 'breakfast' cups too, my friend calls a bucket.

But sadly, I read that it's green tea that counts - I drank it once and found it absolutely foul, so it's the ordinary stuff with skimmed milk please, no sugar.

annodomini Tue 30-Aug-22 12:37:06

I have a big mug of Ceylon leaf tea for breakfast (never milk or sugar), but only Red Bush for the rest of the day. Coffee makes me ill, so is permanently off the menu sad. I don't suppose Red Bush confers longevity, but so far, I'm surviving!

Sara1954 Tue 30-Aug-22 12:18:17

Yes, yes, yes!
At last I am doing something right, at least for today!

Callistemon21 Tue 30-Aug-22 12:15:18

At least, that was the case until a few days ago when I copied the coffee-making method of someone at work. She puts instant coffee granules in a mug, then pours in a goodish helping of milk (whole milk) and only then adds the hot water. It really does make a difference to the taste, I found

That's how SIL makes it and I try to remember if I make one for him.
Someone said once that it scalds the milk and yes, the taste is different.

halfpint1 Tue 30-Aug-22 11:50:58

rascal

I only drink Red Bush with lactose free milk. It's supposed to be better for you than tea. cafe

So I looked up Red Bush tea and duhhhh I found it was
Rooibas which I love, I just haven't seen it called that maybe
because I live in France and I've only seen it as Rooibas but
you learn something every day on GN

toscalily Tue 30-Aug-22 10:26:55

Where did the train come from!

toscalily Tue 30-Aug-22 10:25:47

Mollygo I totally agree, today it is good for you tomorrow it is not smile, so I am a pick & mix type, tea in the morning, coffee (instant or ground) mid morning, tea in the afternoon and red bush or herbal train the evening as I stay away from anything with caffeine later in the day.

Witzend Tue 30-Aug-22 10:09:03

Probably 3 a day here - no milk though. It tastes vile to me with milk, which just goes to show how far people’s taste buds can differ.
I also drink a lot of coffee.

henetha Tue 30-Aug-22 10:04:15

Everything in moderation, is my mantra. I shall stick to my 3 cups of tea a day. I do vary it a bit these days between builders tea, Earl Grey, and de-caffeinated.

V3ra Tue 30-Aug-22 10:00:11

Women who carry a little extra weight are likely to live longer than men who point it out.
???

A couple of years ago I saw a consultant neurologist who recommended 2 strong coffees, a glass of red wine and a couple of squares of dark chocolate a day along with a well balanced diet.

My favourite kind of doctor and advice I am happy to follow ?

Blossoming Tue 30-Aug-22 09:23:16

I have to have my morning tea, coffee is for afternoon smile

Mollygo Tue 30-Aug-22 09:21:55

NotAGran55 I like your idea. If only red wine didn’t send me to sleep.

Mollygo Tue 30-Aug-22 09:20:02

shysal

I don't drink tea, coffee or alcohol and like to think that makes me healthier than most people but perhaps I am wrong sad. I dare say if I could be bothered I could find research that says tea is bad for you.

You are so right Shysal.
If you Google it you can find that anything you eat, or diet you follow has research to prove it is good for you on one site and bad on another.
It makes me laugh because we know that this week, something is good for you, next week it will be bad for you.
Carbs, no carbs, tea, no tea, coffee, no coffee.

I’m just enjoying the idea that today something I like, is in favour!??

Whitewavemark2 Tue 30-Aug-22 09:09:15

I also drink gallons of tea, but told by a clinician this week that it is an emetic and so de-caf is better or up my water intake.

I shall be afloat!

lemsip Tue 30-Aug-22 09:03:44

I'm alright then. heard that too on radio.
