Tea . . . or two?

This just pinged onto my phone. It’s a while since I’ve heard it but at least it’s something I already like to do.
Tea drinkers who consume more than two cups a day are likely to live longer than those who don't drink any, a new study has suggested
What next?

tanith Tue 30-Aug-22 07:35:57

I’ll be fine then probably drink 5 cups a day ?

NannyJan53 Tue 30-Aug-22 07:39:37

I haven't drunk tea since 1975 as pregnancy caused me to be sick when drinking it! Never went back to it as I never liked the taste after! Doesn't bode well for me then.

Live for ever Tanith !
I’m reminded of a cartoon I once saw which said something like “Women who carry a little extra weight are likely to live longer than men who point it out”.

I don't drink tea, coffee or alcohol and like to think that makes me healthier than most people but perhaps I am wrong sad. I dare say if I could be bothered I could find research that says tea is bad for you.

Maw ??

Georgesgran Tue 30-Aug-22 07:44:49

Yes Maw - I think that was a text that went round during lockdown!
My money’s on the tea study being done by the tea industry?
I’ve been ‘off’ coffee at home for years now, but order a latte when I’m out with friends.

My Nana used to serve the stuff full of milk and sugar, put me off for life - i'm lactose intolerant
Fortunately I discovered green tea and tisanses later on to which I am addicted!

Sago Tue 30-Aug-22 08:00:29

Jaysus! I could be around another 100 years or more.

tanith Tue 30-Aug-22 08:08:18

On reading more about it it seems black and green tea is probably what is more beneficial, mine comes with milk.

I only drink Red Bush with lactose free milk. It's supposed to be better for you than tea. cafe

Went off coffee when I was first pregnant and didn't drink it for about thirty years. Then I discovered I liked it again so long as it was accompanied by a doughnut or one of my famous flapjacks. I had a phase where I drank a fair bit of coffee and also ate a fair few flapjacks.

I'm off flapjacks at the moment so not drinking coffee.

At least, that was the case until a few days ago when I copied the coffee-making method of someone at work. She puts instant coffee granules in a mug, then pours in a goodish helping of milk (whole milk) and only then adds the hot water. It really does make a difference to the taste, I found. I still like it pretty weak.

I drink tea pretty weak too. Basically it's my water intake.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 30-Aug-22 08:29:47

Sago- I'm with you. The children will have to take me out and shoot me....

Nannarose Tue 30-Aug-22 08:30:52

Baggs - my parents were very particular about their coffee - they had been given a percolator and a grinder for their engagement. Coffee beans were very expensive, and making it was a Saturday morning ritual.
When we 'discovered' instant coffee in the 60s, the method our US friends told us about was the one you describe. I keep instant by me, and still use that method if making it for anyone who takes milk.

Baggs Tue 30-Aug-22 08:34:28

Nice story, nannarose ?

My US sister-in-law used to moan about her father waking everyone up by grinding coffee beans. Now she does it ?

Charleygirl5 Tue 30-Aug-22 08:40:20

I only drink instant M&S coffee, not having drunk tea for 50+ years. I have done rather well agewise as I will be 79 next month.

Whiff Tue 30-Aug-22 08:49:00

Tea drinking makes you live longer. I am waiting for them to say eating chocolate and cream cakes to live longer. But doubt that will happen ?

Love what Maw said.

Exactly the same for me NannyJan58 still can't stand the smell.

Sparklefizz Tue 30-Aug-22 08:53:54

Ooh! I drink 4 mugs of green tea a day!

Aldom Tue 30-Aug-22 08:54:03

I've drunk Red Bush for the last six + years. It's naturally decaffeinated. I no longer enjoy the taste or smell of Indian tea, but still enjoy Earl Grey. I only drink fresh, ground coffee, unless, of course I was given instant coffee at a friend's, then I would drink it, but I don't enjoy instant. I know some people who can only drink instant coffee, for health reasons. smile

Beautful Tue 30-Aug-22 08:56:26

I maybe wrong but thought it was the BioBank that did it ... I have started to drink decaffeinated tea & coffee ... does this count who knows ... to me somethings are a waste of time ... what happened to the others ? Like everything some work for some others not ... who am I reason why if people try it

NotAGran55 Tue 30-Aug-22 08:57:09

I can’t stand tea.

A couple of years ago I saw a consultant neurologist who recommended 2 strong coffees, a glass of red wine and a couple of squares of dark chocolate a day along with a well balanced diet.
I do my best to follow his advice and as far as I know I have no medical conditions.
Only time ? will tell…

lemsip Tue 30-Aug-22 09:03:44

I'm alright then. heard that too on radio.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 30-Aug-22 09:09:15

I also drink gallons of tea, but told by a clinician this week that it is an emetic and so de-caf is better or up my water intake.

I shall be afloat!

You are so right Shysal.
If you Google it you can find that anything you eat, or diet you follow has research to prove it is good for you on one site and bad on another.
It makes me laugh because we know that this week, something is good for you, next week it will be bad for you.
Carbs, no carbs, tea, no tea, coffee, no coffee.

I’m just enjoying the idea that today something I like, is in favour!??
