Thought I'd post this link to some thinking of Dr Malcolm Kendrick about covid deaths. I found the stats he chose and the comparisons he makes interesting. He leaves a question at the end for which some commenters have suggested the answer.
The most striking difference is between excess mortality in England when compared with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
What some commenters are suggesting made the difference is vitamin D absorption which they presume to vary depending on skin melanin content.
MrB has had a bee in his bonnet about Vitamin D and infection control for quite some time pre-pandemic. He takes supplements. I spend time working outside especially in sunny weather. It is rarely hot where we live in Scotland and I still get a mild suntan on my shoulders and arms when wearing a vest top under my midge jacket in the summer. We are both typically pale northern Europeans.
Have a read. I'd be interested to know what other GNers think.
