I think population density may be relevant.
Per km2

England 434
Scotland 70
Wales 153
N Ireland 137
Or nothing to do with it at all.

Thank you Baggs a very interesting article, interestingly I have never knowingly had Covid despite being in close contact with infected people, I take Vit D from October to April.
Our son lives and works in Oslo, his company Provides free Vit D to all staff.

Would also be very interested to know about the numbers of male and females who died from Covid.

I know more than a few couples where the man has suffered from Covid and the woman has not contracted the infection.

Fascinating Baggs, the Welsh figures are of particular interest to me.

I personally don’t know anyone who died of COVID and my county in north Wales has a population of 117,000 and 350 COVID deaths - a third of 1%.

I believe that Covid affected the ethnic minorities to a greater extent. Maybe we have a higher percentage in England.

Thought I'd post this link to some thinking of Dr Malcolm Kendrick about covid deaths. I found the stats he chose and the comparisons he makes interesting. He leaves a question at the end for which some commenters have suggested the answer.

The most striking difference is between excess mortality in England when compared with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

What some commenters are suggesting made the difference is vitamin D absorption which they presume to vary depending on skin melanin content.

MrB has had a bee in his bonnet about Vitamin D and infection control for quite some time pre-pandemic. He takes supplements. I spend time working outside especially in sunny weather. It is rarely hot where we live in Scotland and I still get a mild suntan on my shoulders and arms when wearing a vest top under my midge jacket in the summer. We are both typically pale northern Europeans.

Have a read. I'd be interested to know what other GNers think.
