Anecdotally, hospital pharmacies round here don't seem very efficient.

Are they operated by the hospital in which the operate or are they outsourced?

Where I live the pharmacies are operated by the hospital trust. I have found them OK.

The nearest one to us always has massive queues, but they would wouldn’t they when they are dealing with lots of clinics as well as many wards.

They also post prescriptions to discharged patients - at least the one at my local hospital did.

PS. It's been outsourced to a pharmacy chain.

kittylester I am annoyed that pharmacists have now been delegated to have telephone consultations with patients instead of the patient speaking to the hospital consultant or even a junior doctor.

Ask a question about anything other than how the medication is working and they don't know the answer.
