Local Support Group - sad telephone call!

Hello Katey, I am sorry to hear of your experience. Just wondered if you had tried Breast Cancer Now. There is always someone there and they also have an on line forum which I always found useful (I haven’t been on there lately). Hope you find someone to talk to.

Do you have a Maggie's centre near you, Katey?

I have heard they are really very good.

So sorry for you Katie. Has your health authority not got a list of Groups? Ours has for depression, diabetes, young mums and fitness and a few others. As it is a rural area if you can't drive to a hospital appointment they put you in touch with an organisation of drivers.
Phone your surgery or the hospital department where you had your op and ask if there is anything.
I've heard of Maggie's centres as well good reports.
Hope you find something soon.

I have often thought about that Fanny. Just about to have lunch and then a run out somewhere is on the cards I think. Perhaps spend my Premium Bond win. Too much sitting about, festering, need to keep more occupied but …..

KateyKrunch phone McMillan they will have a list of of support groups in your area. My mom attended one which was run by the hospital treating her but it was held in a room at a local retail park.

Maggies not local really, I have thought about that, they seem to have one to one sessions, but I dont know how to initiate a conversation, think I have lost the art of interaction.

Maggie's are absolutely amazing. Their centres are unbelievably welcoming, the volunteers are phenomenally well-informed.

You can talk to someone who will offer advice, practical or emotional; you can chat with others, or you can just sit and contemplate your own thoughts in quiet areas set out for the purpose. They also have exercise classes, lunches, communal walks, and much, much more.

When I was undergoing chemo, they had an arrangement with the hospital whereby the hospital would ring them (Maggie's) 20 minutes prior to your appointment so you could use it as a 'waiting room' and relax, instead of sitting in the hospital waiting room for maybe an hour or more (there was always a delay in the chemo treatment rooms).

I can't praise them enough. They really are there for you. Please give them a ring.

My sympathies, have a big hug. I haven't any ideas on top of what been said, but if you can manage (and that a big ask I know) contact the people who referred you, they badly need to know xx

I can't help you with any support numbers, sorry, but I did notice that you said that the stuff from the place you got the numbers from is so out-of-date. Could you perhaps send them a message to tell them so, and ask if they could update it - particularly for the sake of that poor man whose Margaret died two years ago but is still getting calls from people looking for support. An out-of-date list is as bad as no list at all.

Thanks for your replies and ideas, of course if I ever do find the elusive group I will tell them to remove the poor mans phone number. But, from enquiries I have made today, it would appear that the group doesn't exist anymore. I am attending whats called a Moving Forward Group (part of my treatment plan) in a couple of weeks, this is local, so I may find something from that. Had a good walk in wind this afternoon and feel a bit less sorry for myself now 😊
