How much fruit do you eat?

I have a somewhat temperamental system but find it very dependent on the amount of fruit I eat. I need to eat about five portions a day to maintain the status quo. Anyone else any comments on fruit intake?

I have trouble with fruit. Much prefer it tinned to fresh. I'm not sure if tinned fruit counts as one of our five a day. I do buy grapes sometimes, and small oranges. (mandarins etc.).
I do eat lots of veg though.

Would five portions of vegetables work the same way< LR. You'd be taking in less sugar if it worked the same.

In that department, I find that stewed apple helps.

Apart from 50g of frozen mango, cherries, blueberries or pineapple with my breakfast yoghurt I rarely eat fruit. I don't buy fresh fruit unless having guests or grandchildren.

I do eat loads of vegetables and salad.

I eat a lot more fruit than I used to, beginning with half a sliced banana on my bran flakes, then fruit during the day and also, more often than not, after my evening meal.
Yes, tinned fruit (and frozen) count as part of your allowance, but it’s better to look for tinned fruit in juice rather than syrup if you can.

Ooh! Good thinking. I'll try that. Thanks for tip.

I have blueberries or some tinned peaches on my breakfast cereal and have a sandwich with some grapes at lunch time. Occasionally I'll have an apple or a banana but DH dives into the bananas quicker than I do!!!

Following removal of my sigmoid colon, I was advised to have porridge with raisins for breakfast every day to keep my ‘innards’* in good working order.

It works grin

*An elderly aunt always used to ask my siblings and I if our innards were working when we visited her. We still giggle about it.

as with the op yes 3-4 plums in morning to keep the status quo. We eat stewed apples after tea too.

I find that fruit causes aches and bloating as they trigger my IBS, although I have sultanas with my morning porridge. Vegetables don't generally have any advaffect, so I eat more of them

Good point, Ziplock, i must remember to buy tinned fruit in juice and not syrup.
I'm glad to hear it does count in my five a day. 😊

I used to eat a lot, but find that my system cannot take too much now, so only 2 pieces a day, usually grapes and a banana.
I do eat a lot of veg though.

I like fruit and eat a lot of strawberries and blueberries. Not so much apples and pears but some oranges and mandarins. Bananas on and off, a couple of times a week. I don’t eat tinned fruit, I find it a bit too sweet. However, I adore mangoes when they are in season. They are coming in now, lovely.

DanniRae Thu 03-Nov-22 12:03:05

Oh I like the sound of sultanas in my porridge but do I put them in before I cook the porridge or after? (Sorry to be dim blush)

My shopping list always includes strawberries, raspberries, apples, oranges, tangerines, lemons, bananas, pineapple and grapes this will last me the week. Sometimes melon and mango and when plums are in season I eat loads! I don’t need to by apples at the moment as my tree had a heavy crop this year.
I get very out of sorts if I do not eat plenty of fruit but I suppose it is what your gut is used to.

Mixed fresh fruit, melon, grapes, apple and strawberries this morning with Yogurt for breakfast, and usually 3 vegetables or a salad for evening meal.
Works for me.

I recently found apples make my mouth sore it’s possibly oral allergy apparently. But I eat raspberries every morning, 1 or two bananas a week, plums, cherries, peaches and pears when in season and I snack on soft dried apricots and sultanas once a day. Also eat tinned fruit in juice occasionally. I do eat plenty I think.

You should always eat fruit before other things as it moves through the digestive system faster than most foods. I try to eat a banana and an apple each day in a smoothie and I add freeze dried blueberry and beetroot powder to that. Not sure if freeze died powder counts, though.

Henetha, same here! Fruit is boring

I lightly stew all apples and have that as a vegetable with cheese.I make an effort to peel and eat easy peelers but prefer bottled orange juice.

I like quarter of a lemon with fish, and provide a plate of lemon, quartered , for guests eating fish fingers although one and all prefer tomato ketchup.

I find that tinned tomatoes are good fruit/veg. and they are improved by the addition of a little sugar.

I have either blueberries, strawberries or banana on my cereal each morning and a small satsuma type orange at some point everyday. Also the occasional apple or grapes

Blossoming Thu 03-Nov-22 12:38:34

Sprinkle them on top DanniRae.

My husband serves me fresh fruit every day with my lunch otherwise I wouldn't eat any. Usually oranges and grapes, soft fruits when in season.
I do eat vegetables voluntarily.

Half an apple or pear( share with DH who hates fruit) plus one other kiwi, peach etc at lunch time. Then blueberries, strawberries and yogurt for pudding in the evening. Absolutely love all fruit so have to ration myself. The fruit bowl is always full..
