How much fruit do you eat?

I have a somewhat temperamental system but find it very dependent on the amount of fruit I eat. I need to eat about five portions a day to maintain the status quo. Anyone else any comments on fruit intake?

I try for an apple or pear a day, and at noon I have yogurt with mixed berries. I buy the frozen berries, then defrost and blend them quickly. I was finding that berries I was buying out of season went bad too quickly, and didn't have much flavour.

I will substitute the apple or pear to in-season fruit. I love cherries and plums.

I remember a nutritionist say eat a rainbow each day. Meaning different coloured fruit or veg or combination. I have my home made red lentil and whatever soup every day .the whatever is what fresh or frozen veg I have got. Lasts 6 lunches. My dinners are a stew either chicken ,Quorn sausages, Quorn mince or Quorn chicken pieces . Either pearl barley or pasta in it plus as many veg I fancy. Enough for 6 dinners . Because of my health can't cook fresh meal everyday as never know how I am going to be. Porridge for breakfast. Been eating like this for 5 years and it's helped me lose 7+st .

I have an Oddbox every 2 weeks and found some veg I hadn't tried and found I liked them.

Doesn't really answer the OP's post but I ramble on.🤦

Forgot I have yogurt and stewed mixed berries for dessert.

First food I have daily is 5 prunes, an orange,
half a banana, a few walnuts and a yoghurt laced with mixed seeds. This is washed down with a drink of chopped fresh lemon or lime with honey and ginger. Fairly sets me up for the day. Love it.

I eat a very mixed salad 5 out of 7 days as my main meal. This does include some walnuts and mixed dried fruit.

I also have summer berries (from frozen), on my morning porridge(winter) and on my bowl of Fruit 'n Fibre in summer

Two bananas each week, sliced and served with natural yoghurt as a dessert. (for potassium).

Love Bramley apples stewed or baked (in microwave). (I use a sugar substiture for sweetener), Very occasional apple (peeled) with cheese for lunch.

I struggle with raw fruit and prefer stewed apple and pear which is better for my guts.
I do eat kiwis but only the golden variety, less seeds, they are supposed to be high in vitamin c.

Blueberries, black & Green grapes golden kiwis banana with protein yogurt, I’m now wondering if it’s too much as reflux is not good

Not enough!…🤦‍♀️

two pieces a day as a separate fruit meal and mid morning, breakdown of fruit is faster and most fruit is best eaten on its own. Typical is an apple every day and some grapes. I may put a few bits into my overnight oats typical either sour cherries or a few blueberries. Soaked in hm kefir

I get the rest of the days worth via vegetables. Never exotics like peaches or bananas, too high in sugars

Nightsky2 Fri 04-Nov-22 10:43:03

Stewed apple on my porridge every morning as we have a ton of them. So many from 2 very old apple trees in the garden that I am going to box up a load of them today and put them at the bottom of the drive and let people help themselves.🤞. I’ll even put a roll of bags in with them so no excuses.

A banana every day, some blueberries, pears and tinned fruit in juice. Lots of veg and vitamin pills.

SusieB50 Fri 04-Nov-22 11:21:47

I buy the small bananas and have one with my bran flakes porridge or muesli every day with orange juice and homemade yoghurt. Usually have an orange apple or pear after lunch . In the summer I can demolish a punnet of raspberries or strawberries easily in one day . I try and have half a plate of different veg with my evening meal. Seasonal fruit or stewed fruit for pud. Lunch is salad, homemade soup or left overs . I really need a high fibre diet as some of my medications play havoc with regulatory !

Try to eat more veg than fruit as the sugar in fruit concerts to carbs. If I do have fruit I stick to berries which are high in antioxidants. Keep bananas to a minimum but eat them for potassium and magnesium.
Just read a good article which advocates certain veg is better cooked than raw particularly spinach.

I don't eat much fruit at all

gigi05 Sat 05-Nov-22 11:24:38

Hello everyone, I’m a newbie, this is my first post. I’ve found it very reassuring that so many of you are just like me. I don’t eat a lot of fruit except berries on Greek yoghurt. I generally prefer tinned fruit, but I eat lots of veg and salad.

I eat lots of fruit in Summer when my garden is in full fruit. I have a small garden but I have 2 apple trees, a cherry tree, a pear tree, a plum tree, red and green gooseberries, rhubarb, blackcurrants, strawberries and blueberries. The rasberries are still producing as is one of the apple trees. I've dug up the strawberries as they are getting tired and both blueberry bushes died whilst I was in hospital this year sad. More veg than fruit in the winter though.

Fleurpepper Sat 05-Nov-22 11:33:02

Same here, lots in season, in summer to early autumn- but not enough in winter probably.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 05-Nov-22 11:42:06

I eat 5 portions of fruit with bran cereal and Greek yogurt most days. I've started buying frozen soft fruit now as I'm fed up with items going off before I can eat them. I still get fresh 'ripe and ready' pears and kiwi fruit. The aforementioned soft fruit is almost as tasty, less sweet, and a bit cheaper. Also, the same number of vegetables. That keeps me regular.

At weekends I let myself go a bit.

grandtanteJE65 Sat 05-Nov-22 11:53:40

Fresh fruit is so expensive here that we only eat it very rarely.

We occasionally eat tinned fruit - perhaps once a month or so, so the only fruit I eat on a regular basis is home made jam and marmelade.

Neither of us have trouble with our digestions as we eat a fair amount of vegetables, including dried lentils and peas.

effalump Sat 05-Nov-22 11:54:59

Fresh apples, at least one a day, and prunes often. I don't eat a lot of fruit because when I fancy fruit and go to the supermarket, it then takes a week for the fruit to be ripe enough to eat. Basically, if I fancy fruit, I want to eat it immediately.

Ilikeflowers Sat 05-Nov-22 11:57:11

With IBS and BAM my fruit intake is severely limited. I have 6 blueberries with my overnight oats and either 1 kiwi or 1 small orange daily. I'll often make a banana pancake. But pears, apples, watermelon, persimmon and a whole host of others are OUT. Many veg are also problematic but that's another story!

Alioop Sat 05-Nov-22 12:03:09

I love fruit. I used to sit and nibble crisps, biscuits or chocolate in the evening and now it's grapes, melon, berries and a banana before bed. I'm like you tanith apples make my mouth sore too. I've got geographic tongue and the dentist said apples are really bad to eat when you have it.

Bazza Sat 05-Nov-22 12:04:14

Welcome Gigi! Is it just me who finds fruit often an expensive disappointment? My favourite is soft fruit in the summer, and Jaffa oranges in January when they are at their best. Definitely eat more vegetables than fruit particularly in winter.

jenpax Sat 05-Nov-22 12:09:57

I probably eat 3 or 4 portions a day of fruit, but I also have lots of veg with each meal, usually at least two kinds. Its easy for me as I live in a house with 3 grazing children and so there is always a huge range of fruit to choose from. At the moment we have grapes, bananas, satsumas, raspberries, apples and mango to snack on.
