Peripheral arterial disease .

I wonder if its quite rare then, as no one on here has any advice.

My father had this in association with coronary heart disease - he was first ill when he was 57 and lived into his 70s. But this was over 30 years ago and, if it was happening now, the treatments are so much improved that his quality of life would be much better. My mum bought him an exercise bike - just one that would get him moving his legs but not make him breathless.

Try to keep your legs moving somehow and see what the vascular surgeon has to say. Then follow the instructions! I hope you will get suitable help and soon be feeling better - there's so much more that they can do these days.

You could try a Revitive foot vibrator.. very helpful if you feel to exhausted to exercise...(available from Amazon) and also compression stockings for which your GP practice nurse needs to measure you...

I think this is what DH’s nephew has got, we asked him about his visit to see a specialist in Lisbon. He is always vague about what his doctors say but did tell us that when he told the doctor that it was painful to walk, the doctor said “Good” !! but also said that the pain showed that it was helping and to gradually walk more.

DN has other medical problems and I don’t actually know whether he has Peripheral Arterial disease but I didn’t want to just ignore your post, oh and the reason that DN is vague about his doctors’ advice is not embarrassment but that he is deaf and doesn’t always hear clearly.

I've been to a vascular surgeon to have PAD diseases investigated. It's quite common. They'll put an ankle cuff on your ankle and compare your blood pressure with that in your arm.

It turned out that a don't have PAD (I have nerve damage which causes similar symptoms), so I don't have experience of treatment, but I believe in some cases, they can put a stent in. Apart from that, you'll probably be advised to walk as much as possible until the pain gets too much.

The breathlessness probably has other causes and I hope you're having other tests to find the cause.
