Stomach Friendly Painkillers for Muscle/Ligament Sprains?

Swampy1961 - I was given Lansoprazole today for the same purpose. However, the pain and cramps are almost unbearable now. It's been 3.5 weeks now since the Badminton fall. But, I'll see one of my GPS on Friday for a physical examination. It can't come sooner. 🥲

Have you asked your GP if you can prescribed something to protect the stomach?
Due to increased discomfort from wear and tear not to mention age related issues - I was taking high doses of Naproxen which helped but left me with awful heartburn among other prescribed medication. This helped and now I only rarely need the Omeprazole when the pain is severe enough to need increased medication.

May I suggest food in your stomach first? It is the best liner prior to drugs.

Thanks for all your ideas. Think I've exhausted most of them, apart from the stomach lining idea. I have arranged to see a Chinese acupuncturist tomorrow (reputable local business of years standing) to look at situation from holistic point of view. I've a feeling the main source of pain is my back and everything else is referred. My back is excruciating. I can't sit back or sit at all! Fingers crossed then!

Oh, bad luck, PoppyFlower The pain from those soft tissue injuries can seem to take ages to disappear, as I discovered when I fell down some steps.

Would you consider taking a short course of Omeprazole (with heavy duty Gaviscon) to protect your stomach from the anti-inflammatories?

I bought a TENS belt from Boots. That helped my back pain.

Finally, ice packs (20 minutes a time) and microwaveable wheat bags can be comforting.

When my daughter hurt her wrist she used Deep Freeze Cold Spray, which she said helped.

How do you get on with topical analgesics? Eg Voltarol gel (the strongest formula) etc?
I too can’t take ibuprofen or Naproxen and Cocodamol makes me seriously unwell.
The timing of analgesics can make a difference - getting “ahead” of the pain by taking the recommended dose regularly, rather than waiting until it is painful, if you see what I mean. I also find tubigrip type bandages helpful and supporting on wrists, elbow or knees.
Could you try a TENS machine perhaps?
