Foot pain

For no apparent reason I have developed a pain in the ball of my foot. I've looked it up on line and on the NHS website it says go to the GP if lasts longer than 2 weeks. I do have arthritis so I guess that's a possibility. I've ordered some insoles too. I'm wondering whether walking prolongs the issue? Every step is painful and I do have proper walking shoes. Any advice? I'm hoping it will resolve itself. It's been a week so far.

Plantar fasciitis maybe? -- hurts like hell!

catladyuk Mon 07-Nov-22 12:49:48

i think you should ask your gp to refer you to podiatrist, the problem might be exacerbated by leaving it any longer

Could be plantar fascitis. A doctor would tell for certain. Roll a ball under your foot if it is that but don't self diagnose

Daisymae you might get some temporary relief in meantime by freezing a bottle of water and rolling it back and forth under your foot.

i have Plantar fasciitis in my left foot but when something started hurting in my right foot i went to the doctor, the physio i am seeing can't decide if it is bursitis or achilles tendinitis, walking is very painful and i was advised to put foam heel inserts in my shoes and not to use the gel ones, flat shoes have been making it worse so i have been using trainers for the last 6 months. ps the physio is only in his 20s, he asked at the first consultation if i knew what trainers are and not to get the plimsole type, i am only 59....i limped my way to the bus stop feeling very old.....lol

I have had a pain under my left heel, for more than two months now. Probably Plantar Fasciitis, as I have had it before, and it went as quickly as it appeared.
It also appeared in the top of my foot, some years ago, and went on it's own. I took painkillers and used wear well padded shoes at the moment.

Or Bursitis or Mortons Neuroma? Both treatable via cortisone injection..

HowVeryDareYou Mon 07-Nov-22 15:47:25

It sounds like Plantar Faciitis, commonly known as Policeman's Foot (due to walking the beat).

I had it, years ago, and had to have 10 weeks off work - I drove a lot in those days. I was advised to stop wearing heels, only wear trainers, and I was given special insoles and exercises, by the Podiatrist. Pankillers made no difference. The only thing that worked for me was having a steroid injection.

Mortons Neuroma.. Mine came on suddenly very painful.
Had to have Ultrasound steered injection twice worked for while then ended up with foot surgery, as I was told it was due to my foot arthritis.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm in a bit of a quandary. It's such a nuisance. Will give it until next week and battle for a GP appointment. Thanks again

It might be worth while researching local podiatrists and making an appointment with one. Mine was very helpful in managing my arthritic feet.

If you’ve some spare ££, I’d book an appointment with a specialist podiatrist or someone who works in sports foot health. My GP just gave me a print out of NHS advice but a podiatrist really took her time to examine me and then gave me shoe supports made specially for me.

If I were you, I would see a doctor right away. It is worth understanding that prolonged postponement can only aggravate the problem.

Heel is most likely plantar fasciitis but ball of the foot was a Morton’s Neuroma for me. On the other foot, it was caused by a hammer toe. See your doctor or a podiatrist !

Has anyone had back of heel pain and if you have, what helped?

RosiesMaw Sat 21-Oct-23 11:10:57

I’m with those who recommend seeing a podiatrist. You could wait for ever for a Dr’s appointment only to be told to see a podiatrist! Check websites locally, not all necessarily specialise in foot injuries but if it’s PF or Achilles it won’t go away by itself.
SueDonim knows whereof she speaks!

I have had PF , not pleasant. It did take a long time to disappear (months) but disappear it did ! Insoles with built in arch support helped a great deal ( still wear them ) bought some leather ones from the scholl shop also had a pair from Boots that were very good. It is extremely uncomfortable, but it will get better. Please don't diagnose yourself see your GP. Could be a number if conditions. A week is early days , good luck and see that GP!

Don't trainers count as flat shoes?

silverlining48 Sat 21-Oct-23 19:18:36

Trainers with extra insoles will help,
If pf it takes longer than you think to get better.

shysal Sun 22-Oct-23 07:28:46

I have had PF in heels before, but now have a similar pain in the ball of foot. Wearing Skechers memory foam shoes is a great help and it is improving quicker than the heel, so hope the same will apply to you. The stretching and rolling on frozen bottle of water give a little relief.

I have PT and it comes and goes it’s like walking on pebbles and yes caused by walking as I did for my job years ago. I also have fallen arches I wear shoes with comfort fit inners fitted into them. There are several companies on line that sell comfort fit shoes usually light weight too so easy to wear.

My podiatrist does not recommend sketchers because they don’t give enough support ( too soft)

crazyH Sun 22-Oct-23 19:47:05

Plantar fasciitis- I had that once - it does hurt but goes away - I think I was advised to roll a ice cold can of cococola/ lemonade with your feet , a couple of times a day . Good luck !
