Thinning Hair

Well, I think buying one in person, in a shop would help. (Mine came from amazon!)

From what I can gather, it's a process rather like cooking up a witches brew for me, as my toppers aren't real hair.

The real hair ones can be dyed, or anything else you'd do to your own hair.

I used to have curly grey hair pre chemo. Now it is blond, thin and straight with a receding hairline. My oncologist just shrugged it off saying it was due to the medication I am on!
I used Champo serum on the front of my head and fine hairs are now growing there.
It is, however, very expensive.

So how do you get a match?

Eat Millet Flakes each day with joghurt and honey. NB it's quite disgusting on its own, but a Swiss hairdresser told me about this remedy many years ago. Very thin, fine hair, so it has helped.

I was just going to suggest a topper to whitewave.
It's the colour I can't match with my own, which is a nuisance, but I shall persevere until I ruin my toppers and chuck them away I manage to get a match.

I found hair building fibres a godsend. You can buy them in all colours and absolutely restored my confidence.

Under active thyroid can be a reason. If possible ask practice nurse to run blood tests. My thyroid and also Vit D were very low.

My hair was coming out in handfuls in 2020, thankfully my hair has always been very thick but it isn't now! I've got a topper which i wear when I want to feel my best. it's made by Jean Renau, is very lightweight and comfortable to wear. No-one knows I am wearing it unless I tell them. I also use Wow powder, it helps to conceal your scalp if it's become noticeable and I also use it on partings to conceal grey regrowth as I colour my hair. It's not sticky like other products I've used and although it seems pricey it does last for ages.

What is the best sort of wig? Has anyone got any ideas etc?

Mine fell out due to a Vitamin D deficiency. It’s much better now. I had to have a very high loading dose prescribed

Biglouis why don’t you just have a bob or a short haircut?
Shaving it off and wearing a wig sounds rather drastic

Ive had long hair since my 20s and mine is down to my waist and still quite thick. I normally wear it up in a bun. Having arthritis its a pain to wash it and Ive considered shaving it all off and wearing a wig.

OP -I suffered from Alopaecia Areata (bald patches). Eventually, it grew back. But due to ageing, my hair is not as thick as it used to be. Thickening shampoos do help.
Maybe I don’t know why the FB group got mad at you. By ‘upbeat’ they probably wanted you to feel more confident in yourself, regardless of your thinning hair.
I think J52’s suggestion of Collagen is a good idea.

There are lots of threads on GN about thinning hair. Sorry I don't know how to do links. It's not a small problem when you've lost it all like me. It's life changing. I hope something helps you.

I wish that someone would manufacture something that was a sort of cross between a wig and a hat. My thin hair ( it’s always been thin but it’s really thin now). I used to tie it with scrunches then bands. Then I found I was winding the band round more and more times, then it was a childrens band. Wigs make me itch horribly and in summer they’re far too hot. I’ve got two and I’ve never worn one in public. I wish I could find something like those African braids that have beads etc in them. Maybe I wouldn’t have the courage to wear one of those either! I’ve got several of those hair bands but I think they’re more for younger people. And woolly ones, which I do wear. I joined a Facebook group about thinning hair but they got mad with me because I said how demoralising it was and it seems I was supposed to be upbeat about it. Which I’m not.

I take collagen, it’s safe and has made a difference over a year or so.

I’m seeing a Tricologist privately. She explained clearly what was happening. She told my Dr I needed a blood test. She assured me I would not loose my hair.

Try a little black caster oil massaged into your scalp every night. It works brilliantly. Made my hair thicker. I put a bit on my eyelashes too, they grew a lot thicker and longer

I have lost quite a bit of hair since the menopause and have been diagnosed with post menopausal frontal fibrosing alopecia. I now have a fringe to cover the receding hairline and my very fine hair is quite long since the lockdowns. I often wear it up or in a French roll with a bit of padding.

My mothers hair was very thin when she died, but that was 101.

My hair certainly got a lot thinner after the menopause, but this summer I was quite poorly with covid followed by flu and my hair thinned considerably then and hasn’t grown back. Now I’m wondering what to do as I get progressively hairless😮😮
