Humidity will be low so a humidifier will make a world of difference to you. The delicate mucus membranes become dry in low humidity and at first it feels like grit. I use one when I get the first gritty signs
AussieGran See your optician because you may have Blepharitis and need lotion to treat that, as well as lubricating drops for dry eyes. I have both myself.
Dry eyes can be a sign of dehydration, drinking plenty of water can help. I know some older people start to limit the amount they drink in the evening as they don't want to have to get up in the night but it causes all sorts of problems like dry eyes, constipation, feeling light headed and headachy. I always drink a glass of water in the evening and tbh it doesn't make any difference with regard to needing the loo in the night, I just feel better in the morning.
I would try to find the best optician in your area and go and speak to them about your dry eyes. I went to one optician where I live and they dispensed with me swiftly and gave little info. I then booked myself in with another optician and they gave me the full details about what caused it, what to use, and what to do to avoid it.
I use Evolve eyedrops I have very very dry eyes because I am so very shortsighted and have to use these drops a few times a day. I did try Visco tears but because I wear contact lenses they were not really suitable…
I was advised to use a heated eye mask 2 0r 3 times a day .I bought a usb one from Amazon and its been fab.My eyes arent sore or burning or uncomfortable at all now.I spray a little water on each side before I put it on ,I would highly recommend it
AussieGran - my eye professor here in Sydney recommended to me Viscotears which I put in at night. Good luck.
I think viscotears is the best dry eye treatment you can use. Lacri lube makes my eyes blurry for hours afterwards ( although I think it’s good for my eye lashes!). And hypromellose is a bit stingy. Viscotears is more half way between to two. I was waking up with gritty sore eyes a few weeks ago and have no idea what suddenly brought it on.
Hello - looking for advice, please. I have very dry eyes and a dry mouth at night. I have been wondering whether a humidifier would help, and if so, goes anyone have any recommendations? Thank you
I know it’s an old thread! Try a bowl of cool water on the side of your bed. Also you could try eye ointment from specsavers or boot £5 ish. A drop of that in each eye- but mind it can affect the eyes by making them blurry.
Thanks for this. I use drops which help a bit . I've actually started a new thread now as I realise this is an old one and people might not see it. Thank you for replying.
I just saw your post and wanted to say I’m in the same boat with the dry eyes at night, it's uncomfortable. I’ve found that using a gel rather than regular drops sometimes helps a bit more overnight, as it stays in the eyes longer. Keeping a fan or heater away from the bed has made a small difference for me.
