Out of no-where, hit me like a hurricane on Boxing Day.

Any other sufferer out there?

RedRidingHood Wed 18-Jan-23 15:07:19

Suffering here. Started a week ago with an innocent seeming cold the after 4 days hit me like a train, fever, nausea, diarrhoea, fatigue and my chest so congested I couldn't breathe. I spent the weekend in bed but by yesterday was alarmingly short of breath.
I have a lung condition and immunosuppressed, first time I got covid was very ill and hospitalised. Second time it was trivial.
This was very like covid but tested negative.
Credit to my gp, I rang at 10.30, got triage call back 10.45 from GP who said come straight away and by 11.30 I had been seen, checked out and given steroids and ABs.

You may be right. Thank you.

Fleurpepper Mon 16-Jan-23 12:39:55

No honestly, if it has been going on since mid Dec- you should see a doctor so they can listen to your chest, and check if you have a secondary bacterial infection- which would respond to antibiotics. Please seek advice.

Had it since December 15th and still coughing. Tested negative for COVID but positive for Type A flu. (My husband was in hospital so we were both swabbed.) As an in patient, he was given Tamiflu and has hardly suffered. Different for me; coughing, phlegm to make you choke and terrible tiredness. No point asking the doctor for anything as it’s a virus and will go when it goes. Hugs to all my fellow sufferers….at a distance of course.

Sorry to hear that. Have been ill since the week before Christmas. Still chesty and losing my voice, weeks later.... Perhaps I should actually see a Dr?

Newquay Thu 12-Jan-23 09:31:15

Am (sadly) relieved to read all these posts. I started coughing beg December-missed SO many social events and couldn’t sing in my choirs Christmas concerts 😞 I had one day of D&V-felt awful, very faint. It all cleared for Christmas. . . now it’s all come back again! DH had it quickly and not so bad. I managed to see a doc; obs all ok but crackly chest so antibiotics. Negative covid test-it makes you wonder if it’s a variant doesn’t it?
Am now coughing less but feeling washed out. Am back to wearing a mask if I venture out.
Roll on the spring!

Dottydots- it was not at all a waste of time- as the doctor could listen to your chest and hear that you didn't have signs of pneumonia. So that was the right thing to do. Although you should be able to see your GP for this kind of check, and not A&E. It's dreadful that people should have to go to A&E for this.

Hope you get better soon.

And all of you who seem to have got it bad too- and finding it hard to pick up energy after. Spring is coming... slowly but surely.

I am back to my old self and fully over that bout of lurgy, and wish you all the best of luck.

Ah, I wasn't sure if that was a bit TMI haha, but yes some of them are. Not all of them are bulky (some are not much bigger than pant liners), I got some in a light green pack that were not that big.

Lizbethann55 Wed 11-Jan-23 19:48:13

Thank goodness for Tena Ladies!! Though I am shocked by how bulky they are! Like the old Dr Whites.

So sorry to hear that Harlem Shuffle flowers Hope you are feeling lots better now.

I also had that happen. I am feeling better gradually but it's taking a long time.

HarlemShuffle Sun 08-Jan-23 18:35:03

We spent the weekend of 9-11 December with our DGS, who had a cold. By 15 December, we both had colds as well, DH recovered within a few days, but I rallied and then went down with a chest infection, which is unusual for me.

That took me out over Christmas and New Year and it is only the last couple of days that I have started to feel human again. At one point I was exhausted from coughing for literally hours at time, with sats in the 80s and wheezing. Awful!

OnwardandUpward Wed 04-Jan-23 13:52:46

Dottydots

Friend took me to AandE yesterday. Not too long a wait. Doctor examined me and said there was nothing for me to worry about as my chest was completely clear, which I couldn't believe as have been coughing up phlem for England for weeks. What a waste of time that was. I am 80 and have never felt so ill in all my life. Nobody seems to care. Went to bed and just coughed and coughed all night. I will try getting through to my gp this afternoon but I won't hold my breath.

So sorry to hear that, but glad you had not too long to wait. I have also been coughing up phlegm for weeks but I have a Pulse Oximeter and I was not short of oxygen according to that, so I have not gone to the Dr. I worry about catching something on top.

I have had just a slight cold, runny nose and feeling yuks for about three days. I wear a mask whenever I am out in public buildings and crowds and I am sure this has helped me

OnwardandUpward Wed 04-Jan-23 10:23:29

If more people were more graphic and honest, we would all have realised there was a problem sooner. Instead we were all fobbed of with winter flu.
Manuka honey and lemon is good in hot water. Keep coughing it up so it doesnt stay on your chest and turn into a chest infection.

campbellwise Tue 03-Jan-23 20:16:53

Am now on Day 21 of coughing and bringing up phlegm; sorry to be so graphic, but this flu is pretty awful. Wear a mask again everyone…this is one virus you really need to avoid.

Forsythia Tue 03-Jan-23 15:22:35

My DH and I have both been I’ll with this. We thought it was this lurgy thing but yesterday DH has tested positive for Covid although I haven’t …..yet.
We have high temperatures, coughs, headache, shivers, no energy.
We are sitting here in our dressing gowns feeling very sorry for ourselves. I hope it passes quickly.
We shall be going back to masks and hand sanitizer when we go out.

It's day 7 for me, I've just got a text from my twin sister who's pencilled in a birthday lunch for next week. She says that this lurgy (which I'm blaming her for) is rather long-lasting, so here's hoping we're both feeling better by then. I'm really fed up of coughing and sneezing.

If I venture out which is rare just now, I'm wearing a mask again - so glad I didn't throw them away. Hope all on here are on the mend.

Magsymoo Tue 03-Jan-23 12:10:02

Day 11 and I feel I’m turning a corner too. Temperature still volatile, coughing like Capstan man, tired. But a bit more energy today to be able to potter around the house. I’m putting all the Xmas decs away - very slowly. Xmas and NY have been wiped out this year, it feels so sad to be putting everything away without having enjoyed it. Hopefully 2023 can only get better. Warm wishes to those still suffering.

toscalily Tue 03-Jan-23 09:38:56

I'm getting better, still have a cough and feel rather run down. It was such a lovely morning yesterday, blue sky & sunshine so we went for a walk, wrapped up warm. First time we have done anything since I started with this at the beginning of December, so nice after being cooped up for so long feeling rotten. Came home, had a bite to eat and developed a really bad headache, went and sat on the sofa and fell asleep.

OnwardandUpward Tue 03-Jan-23 08:17:54

I think I'm turning a corner.... slowly. Still got a productive cough though. Chest is not what it was pre the first round of covid.

NanKate Mon 02-Jan-23 22:10:18

Just taken a Broncho pastille for my never ending cough 🥱

OnwardandUpward Mon 02-Jan-23 21:42:10

It probably affects people differently. Had a productive cough since Christmas Eve, but gradually finding it easier to breathe. No energy. Sore throat and blocked ears, nose and throat, plus body aches and pains, also temperature.

Harris27 Mon 02-Jan-23 20:42:29

I’ve had sore throat which comes and goes no energy and chest been not good. Wish it was summer already.
