‘‘Twas ever thus Paddy. When the nhs first started there was huge resistance from doctors right up to the very last minute, and this was part of their agreeing to it.
It is annoying though I agree.

The NHS cannot continue being all things to all people.

Maybe people paying privately should get tax relief for taking some pressure off.

Really angers me that the"private" operation will be done by the same surgeon who is paid to do the NHS one.On his day off !!
My friend discovered this for herself when her hip op was delayed for months and the surgeon she had spoken to at the NHS hospital did it privately within a couple of weeks of her signing up and PAYING for it!

Fleurpepper

Very interesting. And could be very useful for so many on waiting lists.

But something niggles- why is this so. What are the reasons behind those free/cheap loans.

Another nail in the NHS coffin, being privatised by the back door.

Gift horses - mouth -never look ?

It is worth knowing.
I always assumed the finance option would involve huge interest rates.

Thank you Ann that is very useful information. Not that I have any bits which need replacing at the moment but you never know!!

annsixty Wed 18-Jan-23 12:25:28

I do realise you would need to dip into savings drip by drip but it does help not to take a capital sum out in one go.

Great information. Thank you.

I don’t know if this will be of help or interest to anyone on a long list for surgery.
I have found out that you can actually have credit through a finance company through the hospital with no interest charged if you pay it over a year.
I would certainly take advantage of this if I needed more replacement “parts”.
It saves depleting savings and can save lots of pain.
I waited 9 months for my THR and was totally disabled , if I had had to wait two years as some people are I fear I would not have recovered.
The APR is I believe, 9.9% if you need longer.
