Has anyone had the pneumonia injection? My GP surgery has just rung and offered one to me and I have told the I'm going to think about it - seem to have had so many jabs recently.

Susieq62 Sat 25-Mar-23 11:43:06

Definitely have it and shingles jab when old enough! Anything to stop me getting ill !!!

Janeea Sat 25-Mar-23 11:36:53

I had that and a shingles jab together last year, no problems at all

Missiseff Sat 25-Mar-23 11:33:20

Get it

Grantanow Sat 25-Mar-23 11:33:07

I had it a few years ago with no problems at all. I was told it lasted a lifetime but I'm not sure that's true.

I had it - no side-effects at all …

NanaDana Sat 25-Mar-23 11:28:28

I had this jab about 5 years ago now, and unfortunately had a bad reaction to it, which laid me low in bed for two days. So I'm one of the unfortunate few, but nevertheless would still encourage anyone who is eligible to opt for the jab. I had a rough ride, but pneumonia can be a killer. particularly with the elderly.

Had mine a couple of years ago with my flu shot. Last year had the shingles vac with my flu. I take anything I can get, sign up for all the trials from NHS, do bowel and breast screening. Think you have to be pro active with your own health

crazygranny Sat 25-Mar-23 11:18:05

You only have to have it once.

grandMattie Sat 25-Mar-23 11:14:33

I have every inoculation offered. I had it with no side effect whatsoever.
This pneumonia one for for the pneumococcus bacteria which is the worst for elderly people. Yes, there are other types, but the most common is pneumococcus.

I had it years ago, no side effects, no sore arm. Worth having.

Farzanah Thu 23-Mar-23 20:26:14

I will have whatever is offered, particularly covid booster. I know 12 people who are ill with covid at the moment, some of them very unwell.

It’s a nonsense to say we’ve had too many vaccines. Our body is challenged with multiple viruses and bacteria each day. Most of which a healthy immune system copes with, but not the most virulent, or if you are particularly vulnerable.

Without vaccines many would have died a premature death.

Elegran Thu 23-Mar-23 20:11:34

Get it.

annodomini Thu 23-Mar-23 19:16:40

It must be 17 years since I had it and so far I haven't had pneumonia, though who knows if I had been especially at risk. Go ahead and have this important immunisation. It could save your life.

Anything I am offered I take. The pneu jab has been round for years, shingles jab for 10 years, I was in the first group to have it.
Just say 'yes, please'

grannydarkhair Thu 23-Mar-23 18:13:12

I’m another who had it in my early 60s due to having asthma. Like most, no after problems.

MrsKen33 Thu 23-Mar-23 18:11:43

I had it several years ago, plus flu in the other arm. I was quite poorly the next day, but only for that one day.

Oldbat1 Thu 23-Mar-23 18:08:43

I had flu in one arm and pneumonia in the other followed with shingles the next month. No side effects apart from stiff arm for a day or so.

BlueBalou Thu 23-Mar-23 18:07:09

I had it, I wouldn’t hesitate personally.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 23-Mar-23 18:01:03

We both had the shingles one in one arm and the pneumonia one in the other arm last autumn. No side effects apart from temporary sore arms. Grateful to get them - I've had shingles a few times and don't want to get it again and possibly worse.

It protects against pneumococcal pneumonia, which is caused by pneumococcus bacteria, so doesn't protect against viral or other bacterial pneumonias.

Nanamary19 Thu 23-Mar-23 16:15:26

I had it 25yrs ago as I have RA no side effects just reasurance.
I have recommended a few friends to have it and they are glad I did

Juliet27 Thu 23-Mar-23 16:13:51

Had it and the shingles one at the same time. No problem

BlueBelle Thu 23-Mar-23 16:01:55

Had shingles and pneumonia one in one arm one in other 8 years ago
No reactions

kircubbin2000 Thu 23-Mar-23 15:48:24

That reminds me, my friend had to get a tetanus one when she was 60.The young nurse said cheerfully this lasts 10 years, you won't need another one !

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Mar-23 15:40:55

I had it when I was 62 as I am asthmatic no problem whatsoever.
