As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

Coco51 Andrew Parker Bowles was a serial adulterer but you didn’t see Camilla manipulating the media for sympathy!

Why on earth would she? Nobody knew who Camilla was back in the day.

She might have, when the media went for her claw and fang. She maintained a dignified silence. Do the media castigate Diana’s partners? Oliver Hoare, James Hewitt, Will Carling, Hasnet Khan, Dodi Fayed to name a few.

She looked amazing on her wedding day.

Gundy Tue 02-May-23 14:41:55

I think Camilla looked much more “Queenly” when she married Charles, but of course, we all age. Is it just me or has her sartorial tastes aged with her? Will be interesting to see her gown(s) and hair on Saturday (plus going forward.)

Yes, and there have been posts on this forum re Charlotte should be Queen because George is too serious !

PamQS Tue 02-May-23 14:08:42

That seems to have already been decided - Charlotte! Yesterday the Daily Express was ffull of photos of Charlotte and Diana at similar ages, showing how similar they were.

PamQS Tue 02-May-23 13:53:22

“ will probably watch some of the coronation as it's History with a capital H.”

Exactly how I feel. If it wasn’t being shown, there’d be a load of grumbling about it costing all that money and those who have paid for it not being allowed to see it!

As a church minister, I do feel a certain amount of professional interest in the public services the C of E concocts for public occasions! I watched Prince Phillip’s funeral out of interest, and really enjoyed it. It reflected his love of Creation (even if sometimes expressed by huntin’, shootin’ and fishing’)

The main interest being created by the media seems to be who is sitting next to who, who should be feeling slighted by the arrangements, and what Prince Harry is doing - none of which hold the slightest interest for me!

Anniebach Tue 02-May-23 13:49:04

Who will the media choose to replace Camilla and Diana ?

Treetops05 Tue 02-May-23 13:44:51

I will be watching, and enjoying.

Coco51 Tue 02-May-23 13:27:46

Camilla is the love of his life and he will be a better King with her at his side. I wish people would get over the Saint Diana thing: she was far from that - numerous affairs with married men. Andrew Parker Bowles was a serial adulterer but you didn’t see Camilla manipulating the media for sympathy!

Anniebach Tue 02-May-23 13:19:27

Kate will be queen consort

enabenn Tue 02-May-23 13:18:31

Saint Diana.

Yiayia70 Tue 02-May-23 13:12:06

I’m with you , I don’t like Camilla at all, she’s conniving and she’s consort Not Queen! Charles’s doesn’t even dress himself it’s pathetic. William and Kate should be in their place.

HeavenLeigh Tue 02-May-23 12:41:07

Don’t watch it if it’s going to upset you op , I won’t be watching it as not in the least interested

Oh, thanks, NotSpaghetti
It was possibly media exaggeration about the two Grannies plotting to bring about the union of their grandchildren.

I know this isn't really relevant here, but I felt I'd like to post this from some years ago.
A beautiful written piece by Hilary Mantel on the myth of the princess which some of you may also enjoy:

www.theguardian.com/books/2017/aug/26/the-princess-myth-hilary-mantel-on-diana

I went back to find it Callistemon, because I remembered it saying that Ruth Fermoy had actually advised against the marriage saying they were a different sort of people... but the bit that I found interesting this time round was about what would have happened if she'd had an "ordinary" life.

A fascinating article, thank you, so perceptive and well written.
I have never read any of Hilary Mantel’s novels, not being a fan of historical fiction, but she writes like a dream here; a chilling summing up of the Diana phenomenon.

So many people posting on here seem to have no understanding of why Prince Philip was not King Philip and why the wife of a King is called “Queen”. Camilla IS and will always be a “Queen Consort “ and as has always been the case, she will be known as “Queen”, just as Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was when her husband became King. It has been the same for all the women who married Kings before Elizabeth Bowes- Lyon. It’s really not that difficult, is it? 🙄.

To be fair to them the House of Lords have been doing a reasonable job of keeping the government in check ( or at least trying to) for the past few years ( and I can’t believe I’m saying this!).

In a world where Trump can become president of the USA (and is likely to get the nomination to run again) and Johnson can become PM of this country with a massive majority I think anything is possible. And Charles is probably the lesser of many evils! I sometimes feel as if I’m living in some sort of alternative universe confused

Well, in the event that we had an elected Head of State Boris could still be voted in as PM and try to make the mess of the country that he did.

Except with an elected HoS with a proper role in a constitution, not just a role signing off the documents that the PM tells him to, we would have an extra layer of safeguards. The PM wouldn't be able to adjourn Parliament when he fancied, no matter how big his/her majority, because that would be illegal. And it is the HoS who would tell him so and hold him to account on behalf of the people.

I'd much rather have a grown up system of governance than a bunch of charities with the King's picture on the wall of their offices.

We don’t have a TV either Baggs. I like watching the Horse Guards on YouTube though, beautiful well trained creatures.

Tell me you're not serious MayBee70.

Why would anyone say that when we've had it posted innumerable times, so its neither original nor likely.

... it's not an original observation, but it does cause pause for thought when you are on multiple social media sites and discover that there appear to be an awful lot of posters who believe that he's "got it right" (or words to that effect).

I'm still dumbfounded that Jeremy Clarkson remains so popular with so many people, but apparently he says "what we all think".

Hateful, racist, bigoted high profile figures might be more popular than you realise. Look at the number of people who still think "Boris" should be brought back into the fold.

You don't need me to tell you that anti-asylum seeker, anti-immigrant feeling is pretty strong in this country right now... the disenfranchised underbelly think they're the cause of our problems and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if individuals like Farage regain their previous popularity.

I'd like to believe it's just not possible. But I didn't think we'd Brexit, either...

Well they havent ever voted for farage to be an mp previously so it's probably unlikely.

I’d like to think that is the case but I’m not so sure. If it’s a countrywide vote he has so much support from some parts of society.

So? If that's who the British people want as Head of State, who are you to say they can't have him?

Not that I think he'd have any chance at all.

If that happened I really would have to leave the country! Not sure where I’d go but I couldn’t remain here! Unless I bought a house in the middle of nowhere with no access to the outside world a la Hannah Hauxwell and pretended it hadn’t happened!

What of her father ? For me the villain of the tragedy, he was an equerry to the queen and her father,

I do think Diana married Charles to pleased her father, it is well recorded that her parents wanted a son after two daughters, but another daughter, inheriting titles is so important to these people.

Nannies have spoken of how jealous Diana was over her father, she pushed her step mother down the stairs .

A damaged child .

Diana was 15 when her father married. It was 13 years later when she pushed her stepmother, so she wasn't a child.
All the Spencer children hated their step mum and called her Acid Raine.
