As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

Thanks Annie for clarifying. I totally missed the point. Apologies for misinterpreting.

Dickens
I think one of the criteria is that the Royal Family needs to make sure that any future heir to the throne is a child of the Monarch or their heirs.
We'd probably have a Plantagenet on the throne had this been ensured several hundred years ago.

Fergie lived with a chap before marrying, the media are obsessed with ‘is she a virgin’

Why didn’t Charles just marry Camilla in the first place?
The question was tackled in Sally Bedell Smith’s biography, Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life. According to Bedell Smith, right from the start Charles adored the then-Camilla Shand, who’s close in age to Charles (Diana was 13 years younger) and has always treated him as an equal rather than as someone she idolized. However, the royal family wasn’t interested in having Camilla as its princess. For one thing, she was perceived as an “experienced” woman, which was a nonstarter for the royal family back then in terms of a suitable spouse for Prince Charles. For another, she wasn’t perceived as “aristocratic” enough to be a princess, according to The Duchess: Camilla Parker Bowles and the Love Affair That Rocked the Crown by Penny Junor.

Women who've "been round the block" - or "kept themselves 'tidy'"...

It matters in royal circles - but such hypocrisy is nauseating.

Male royals sow their wild oats and they, too, go round the block a few times, but expect and are expected to, marry a virgin.

They can 'sully' as many women as they like - but others have to be confined and saved for their marriages.

It's so archaic - on its own its enough to turn me into a republican.

In the 21st century, if we have to have a monarchy, we should be looking at who will best serve the nation, and who has its best interests at heart, both at home and abroad.

nadateturbe My point is, how do people know Camilla has
‘Been around the block a few times’, because the media tells us?
It’s wrong to say this about any woman

I agree.
It's quite a disgraceful comment to make about any woman.

We only know what the media have told us about Camilla and about Diana.

To be clear, it wasn't nadateturbe who posted that, it was lemsip.

Anniebach Thu 04-May-23 10:41:30

Yes Callistemon we don’t know if Camilla had slept around or if Diana was a virgin. We don’t know if Charles and Camilla fell madly in love when they first dated. The media tells .

I haven't read all this thread, just popped on to see how it's going.
What is your point here,Annie? That if someone visits your flat it's for sex?

Anniebach Thu 04-May-23 10:06:15

So Diana wasn’t a virgin when she married, Gilbery use to visit her flat.

Galaxy Thu 04-May-23 10:04:34

I am a little bit confused though. Seems that polyamory is smashing but having sex with other people when you are single is bad. I have got things badly back to front in my life.

Sparklefizz Thu 04-May-23 10:00:09

None of Harry's lovers have "written books or given interviews" but it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who noticed that! blush

Anniebach Thu 04-May-23 09:55:52

Who are the men she allegedly had sex with ? have they all written books or given interviews?

lemsip Thu 04-May-23 09:50:49

when charles met camilla she'd already been round the block a few times so was out of the question as a bride...

Anniebach Thu 04-May-23 09:28:50

Not true

Oreo Thu 04-May-23 09:24:20

Iam64

I read that Charles wanted to marry Camilla after his world travels and the lifestyle encouraged by Mountbatten. By then Camilla was married and loved PBowles. He was a real philanderer and she and Charles drifted back into a sexual relationship. Fidelity and stable marriages weren’t common in their circles

That’s what I read about it too.Charles could have married her if he’d asked her earlier on instead of acting the playboy.
He left it too late and by then she’d fallen for PB.

Just keep your minds on the £! billion benefit to the economy.

Bizziebe Thu 04-May-23 09:11:31

Mr. P B is invited to the Coronation too.

Vintagenonna Thu 04-May-23 09:09:56

Isn't Mr. P-B a frequent guest at Camilla's home? I think their son is quoted as saying they get on well and she has been a great to support to her ex-husband since his wife died. Polyamory is perfectly respectable in some circles.

creativeness Wed 03-May-23 21:16:45

Horsey aristocracy a different breed altogether should imagine!

Anniebach Wed 03-May-23 20:54:06

I know because I had coffee with someone who had been a guest at Camilla’s wedding to Parker Bowles and she showed me wedding photographs, Camilla loved him , there was no mention of any romance between her and Charles , just he had dated Anne.
